Let it sink in Submitted on: 2009-10-21 |

Anyone ever listened to an album that upon first listen you know its good, but not until many many more listens you begin to realize how truly amazing it is?...well this is exactly that sort of album. People looking for music with deeper satisfaction definately need to check this band out.
The album flows coherently all the way through. The first 1-2-3 ko punch is simply stunning. Each song has a very unique climax but, dulcinea has the most memorable climax in my oppinion. Toward the last third of the song the band starts to build up for a breathtaking climax. However, to get the full effect of this climax you have to feel the tension mounting as it builds towards the finale.
The other true standout is Garden of Light. The first 5 minutes of this song attempt to blwo you away before they tune it down and go into one of the most rememerable endings to an album ive ever heard.
Buy this album and give it a legit chance to sink into your skin. If you grow to love isis as much as i do, then move onto their other masterpieces!!!!!!! |

The Mysterious and Elegant side of Metal Submitted on: 2009-06-25 |

This music is not for lovers of mainstream metal. It is certainly an aquired taste. Isis' style does not appeal to everyone. Many songs go the majority of their duration without a single word screamed. Only the sweet sound of ambient metal fills and echoes through your ears until a blissfull and somehow non-aggressive scream climbs the instrumentals a flows it's way into your cerebral... giving you a very pleasant sensation.
k, but seriously this is isis' underrated gem. Every track has fantastic heavy melodies as well as tight clean passages that are enough to please hundreds of listens after the first. Wrists of kings... Not in rivers, but in drops... Holy Tears...Garden of light. Masterpieces of their element, and nothing less. Please check this album out! |

Very Progressive Submitted on: 2009-01-25 |

In reading Amazon's reviews, I was somewhat surprised to see a number of reviewers that didn't think too highly of this album - that it was boring, and things of that nature. Of course, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion - that's why we all post our individual reviews.
This album was my first introduction to Isis, back in 2007. It's still probably my favorite album by them, although it's a close call with Panopticon. All the tracks are great, and they are quite varied, in my opinion, of course. There are plenty of catchy hooks, and truly, I don't think that there is a dull moment on here. In the Absence of Truth definitely sounds more "progressive" than their previous albums, almost psychedelic at times, but I view this as a welcome change. 1,000 Shards and Holy Tears were the songs that grabbed me initially, but at this point, I am not sure what my favorite track on here is, as I keep finding new things every time I listen to this album.
If you're interested in getting into Isis and are into some of the progressive rock/ metal bands like Tool, Porcupine Tree, or even some of the melodic Swedish metal such as Opeth, I would even recommend starting with this one and working back. On the other hand, if you are more into hardcore bands like Neurosis, I recommend you pick up Oceanic or Celestial first and see where that takes you. Isis and Neurosis often get lumped in the same category, but I found that to be true only for Isis' early records - they're quite different now, and at this point, I prefer the more melodic style of Isis.
