Good Album

The band shows potential on this album; however it was somewhat dry once the singles are removed. Hope to hear more from "The Almost."
Superb Christ Focused Rock!

What can I say? Underoath is the best band in the world, thanks in no small part to the talents of singer/drummer/songwriter Aaron Gillespie. Make no mistake, this album is largely different from the electronic/hardcore leanings of Underoath, but it is nearly as amazing.

Ok, so breaking it down now:

LYRICS
Amazing, amazing amazing. I can't describe the beauty of these lyrics. Aaron has really outdone himself in writing lyrics worthy of the best Underoath material. If you have Jesus in your life, these lyrics will inspire the snot out of you.

MUSICIANSHIP
Again, amazing. Aaron recorded most of the instruments on the album himself... but you can't tell. It really sounds like a full band!

SONGWRITING
I bet you can guess what I'm going to say... Suffice it to say that these songs are interesting, tasty and good to listen to over and over again. "Amazing Because it Is" and "Say this Sooner" are the most popular, but the others are just as awesome.

OVERALL
If there's one thing all of my years as a music consumer has taught me, it's that you can't go wrong with an Aaron Gillespie project... this is no exception. If you're ready to be blessed by some awesome rock and beautiful lyrics, do yourself a favor and buy this NOW.

Great Rock album by Aaron from Underoath. You can tell this album was a one man show with Aaron doing all vocals and instrumentation. It took some time for it to grow on me but now in addition to "Say This Sooner" and "Southern Weather" I really like at least 6 songs on the album though I wouldn't say that any are bad. Overall the album is solid and you won't be disappointed. For their next release I hope to hear some more creative sounds.
The Almost - Great Debut

I am not really a big fan of band members who branch off into a side band using their original band's status to promote their new venture. But, then again I have been wrong before. Underoath's drummer, Aaron Gillespie, has done just that, yet it's apparent he and his band don't need any help from Underoath in the popularity department. Gillespie and crew had fans salivating once they heard of the drummer's rumor of starting up The Almost. And with all the hype surrounding the band's debut, it's evident they did not disappoint.

From the takeoff of the first track, "Say It Sooner", this song expresses how the rest of the album will feel. Of course, the group's sound is very similar to Gillespie's counterpart Underoath, but different in their own respects. Instead of scream vocals Gillespie tones it down with a softer side but doesn't forget about the big bass and ripping guitars, as in the title track "Southern Weather". Combining those devices with scratchy, yelling vocals, gives the album a raw sound, as if the tunes played are just being laid down. The sound is very interesting to say the least. Having proved their will to rock, The Almost does slow it down on the tracks: "Dirty and Left Out" and "Amazing Because It Is" as the lyrics drip with emotion and vitality. They declare the love of our Savior and His amazing grace. Gillespie's will to write such heartfelt words drive the artist's love for his music that it seems he just can't stop creating.

Not since the Foo Fighters has this reviewer heard such an amazing debut from a side band. I just hope Gillespie can handle both tasks of each of his bands, because if so, we are in for some major ear candy in this band's future.

Listen to it over again!

I am a huge fan of Underoath, they are my favorite band. I think Aaron has a really beautiful voice, and when I heard he had a side-project, and when I first heard "Say This Sooner" it was just so amazing.
Now, I'll admit, when I first got the CD and listened to it, I felt a little disappointed. But that disappointed was short lived, because after listening to it more and more, I just loved it. When in doubt, give it another spin, and you'll find the amazingness of the album you missed!
My favorite track is "Never Say 'I Told You So' "
Just a note: The Almost is NOTHING like Underoath, so if you're expecting Hardcore, this isn't it. However, if you like catchy, alternative songs, this is your album!
