This is by far Benzino's best album to date. His rhymes and flow have gotten better. In his early albums he seemed to be experimenting alot so sometimes his songs were either hit or miss, but now he just seems comfortable and has found his niche. This and Arch Nemesis are by far his best two albums and right now I'd say this is better then Nemesis. And whoever said Production is weak on this album is on CRACK! If there's one thing no one has ever been able to question about Benzino albums is the beats. Hangmen3 always handle the the majority of the beats and this album is the same. They did like 8-9 songs and the rest of the production is by Ty Fyffe(who also produced 50 Cent's lead single "Money in the Bank"), Scott Storch, Guerilla Tek and Track Kings. And all brought heat.
My favorate tracks right now are
Return Of The Nemeziz
Armed & Dangerouz
Gameface ft. Ja Rule
Rollin'
Huztle All Day
Benzino - The Antidote Submitted on: 2007-08-21
Benzino's (A.K.A. Raymond Scott) fourth solo album is "The Antidote" (2007) a twenty-five track release (including intro, 5 skits) which features guest appearances from Ballgrum, One Monzta, Young Lo, Xavier, Young Hardy, Ja Rule, Lil Dev, T-Drop, Stevie J, Kalena, Picalo, Price, Punchy, Banger, Tycoon Cognito One Monzta Hennessi, Ugly & the 1st 48. I have listened to some Benzino material in the past but never a full album. Benzino gets the album started with the "American Z" intro, this track has Benzino rhyming about his own life with a Scarface theme. The lead single "On My Grizzy" follows, Benzino rhymes about grinding and his bling backed by some mediocre production. Benzino talks about losing the Source magazine on the following skit, which is followed up with collaboration with Ballgrum and One Montza on "Pocket Full of Grizz" & a watered down club track in "Howuwannit" feat. Young Lo. Xavier, Young Hardy, Lo provide a thugged out cut with "Run Up", which is followed up by another skit which has Benzino talking about his new Hip Hop magazine. With the exception of Ja Rule never heard of any of the Mc's on this release, Ja Rule and Lil Dev make an appearance on another forgettable track in "Gameface". The one notable skit on this release is the "Scarface" (skit) which samples Pacino's voice, and classic line. "Return of the Nemeziz" follows Benzino reps himself and reflects on his Boston roots on this cut. Singer T-Drop delivers a decent hook for "Huztle All Day", while Benzino delivers some less then memorable lyrics. One track that did standout on this release for me is "Rollin' which is a remake of Warren G/Nate Dogg's classic "Regulate", Benzino & singer Stevie B deliver solid collaboration backed by some of the better production on this release. Benzino pays tribute to the originators of the cut at the end of the track. Female singer Kalena makes an appearance on "Gotta Girl" a standard Rap/R&B collaboration. "Zexxxy" is a wack dance track, while "Re-Up" feat. Ballgrum, Lil Dev & Picalo is a typical G type cut. Price, Bunchy and Banger collaborate with Benzino on "Let It Bang" which is laced with some decent production. "Gimme Dat" feat. Cognito, Lil Dev is a laidback cut, which has all three talking about want to get laid. The album's biggest collaboration is "If It'z about the Game" and features appearances from Tycoon, Cognito, One Monzta & Picalo. "Armed & Dangerouz" feat. Hennessi & Ballgrum is dedicated to those grinding on the streets and in the jails, Benzino presence is better on this track. Rhying over a familiar beat, Benzino teams up with Young Lo & Montza for "Ztill A Mystery" a track dedicated to friends who have died or ended up in jail. The albums closer is "48 Lawz of Power" which features appearances from Ugly & The 1st 48. "The Antidote" is a less then remarkable release, a lot of the content is repetitive, the beats are generally under par and none of the MC's bring anything new to the table. Would only recommend this one to die hard fans.
