Delightful in every sense of the word...
Submitted on: 2009-10-13
Yes, they found her on MySpace, but seriously, this girl is hugely talented and would have made it one way or another. With a silky smooth voice and a great sense of composure (you instantly know that it is a Colbie Caillat song, which is a feat in itself), this young musician delivers on track after track. Liken her to Jason Mraz if you want (the island, blues, folk, acoustic rock fusion suits both marvelously), but Caillat is a recognizable voice all her own.

On her debut album `Coco', Caillat shines brightly on nearly every track, and even the few that are not my favorites are still astonishingly catchy and wonderfully light and delightful.

This is the definition of feel good music.

The singles selected for radio play were major hits, and it's easy to see why. `Bubbly' is such a fun song; one of the best on the album, and `Realize' IS the best song on the album. From the moment she says "will you count me in" you just know that this is a personal and genuine approach to music, a sweet, often simple yet always sincere collection of songs that reflect a time in someone's life. These are relatable songs for anyone who has ever been where young Caillat is right now, and that's pretty much everyone. `Realize' has such a deep sense of raw emotional power in its delicate delivery, and Colbie's voice is just stellar. This is the same structure given to `Battle', which wisely follows `Realize'.

Carrying the same breezy and light feeling of `Bubbly' are opening tracks `Oxygen' and `The Little Things'; and even stunner `Tied Down' has that bouncy feel to it. `Oxygen' was a very smart way to open the album. It's not as wonderful as `Bubbly' (really, what song is?) but it instantly tells you that the former wasn't a fluke. It has a catchy and memorable vibe to it, and it has such a sweet presence.

This is music for happy people!

`One Fine Wire' and `Midnight Bottle' have really nice chemistry to them, especially `Midnight Bottle', which is a bit of a standout here. The flow is a different kind of laid back (the whole album is laid back), which just catches the ear. Besides, who doesn't like the thought of a nice bottle of wine in the dead of night, resting outside staring up at the stars, just crooning to the beauty within this young talents voice?

`Feelings Show' is a bit of a toss up for me. I really like parts of it, but then I kind of find myself slightly irritated with the chorus. `Tailor Made' and `Magic' are good songs, but forgettable, especially when placed up against the rest of the album.

`Capri' closes the album with the most sincere and emotional of the songs provided here. It is a tearjerker and one that is felt far more than merely heard.

Just "WOW".

So, with the recent release of her sophomore album (which I just purchased like five minutes ago) I felt it only appropriate to finally review her debut, an album that I've listened to a number of times over the past two years. Pick this one up if you haven't already. It is well, well worth it!
Every song is good.

This is not normally the kind of music that I would listen to but I have listened to this CD over and over and each time it is a pleasure to hear. Every song has it's merrits.
Great Album

I bought this album a whiles back and I love it. Colbie is an amazing singer and has some decent guitar skills to boot. She is absolutely beautiful (could be I have a thing for girls who play guitar) and her music is just as good. Her music is what I would compare to Jack Johnson if he wasn't boring. She also does a duet with Jason Mraz in his song Lucky which I love also. If you are a fan of mellow acoustic music then get this, if not then this album might not be for you.
It's perfect.

I love Colbie Caillat. I heard one song on this CD on the radio and I had to find out who the artist was. I had never heard of her. I adore the entire CD. I'm going to do a search on "Google" to find out more about this fantastic artist. I love her style of singing. You go GIRL!!!!
