No Showstoppers In This One Submitted on: 2009-11-17 |

On Thursday, November 12, 2009, I saw the Broadway road company of the show "Legally Blonde" at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. The first act was weak, but the show picked up in the second. Listening to the show's original cast album (2007) on CD, it became clear that there is really no memorable music in this one. Some songs don't even move the plot along while others seem as if they belong in another show altogether.
On the CD, to correlate it with the stage production, Act One ends with "So Much Better" and Act Two begins with the catchy dance number "Whipped into Shape."
The best musical numbers are "Blood in the Water" about legal sharks sung by the law professor. The courtroom song "There, Right There!" with the funny lines "Is he gay or European?" is very funny seen live with the stage business.
The plot concerns Elle, a frivolous girl, who has little on her mind except fashion and her own comfort. Her boyfriend Warner gets into Harvard law school and is more interested in a socially prominent girlfriend at Harvard law who can help him get ahead.
Elle proves to him and to herself that she is a brain by acing the LCAT and she, too, gets in Harvard law.
The CD may be interesting to Broadway musical collector buffs who liked the show or want to own every Broadway original cast recording no matter what, but there are no showstoppers, or eleven o'clock numbers. I can't imagine this joining the Pantheon of famous Broadway cast albums. Many found the show "cute."

It all sounds alike Submitted on: 2009-09-27 |

Where to begin... Do I review the actual show, or the quality of the C.D.? For the most part, the show was one cute song after another same-sounding cute song. The only two stand-outs are WHIPPED INTO SHAPE, but mostly because the woman playing the workout video queen jumps rope while belting out this number -- truly amazing! The other standout number is THERE! RIGHT THERE! (or IS HE GAY OR EUROPEAN).
As for the packaging of the C.D. it is good. I do love it when you get all of the lyrics in the cover booklet as you do here. The photos are nice too. But if you're looking for a great musical, buy West Side Story. |

Legally Blonde the Musical Rocks!!! Submitted on: 2009-09-24 |

| I loved the movie, and was extremely excited when I heard that MTV was going to air the musical. I loved it! I was even more excited when I had a chance to see the show live when the touring company came to LA. My nieces and I had a lot of fun together and I couldn't stop singing the songs afterward. So I bought the CD and now I can relive the show anytime I want. The CD includes photos with the original Broadway cast, as well as all the lyrics. It's like 75% of the show on one CD. If you love the show, then the CD is a must! |

Great! Submitted on: 2009-09-02 |

This is one of the most fun Broadway soundtracks to have come out in a long time. The energy from the cast is exceptional, and the upbeat songs will have you dancing along whether you realize it or not.
Laura Bell Bundy is truly wonderful as Elle Woods - she's simply radiant. Her effortless voice matches the character perfectly, and you can tell that she really enjoys playing the character. Also great are Orfeh (Paulette), and Christian Borle (Emmett), who have amazing voices, and interact with Bundy's character very well.
My favorite songs are "Ireland" and "So Much Better" - I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did! |
