Not as enthused as others Submitted on: 2009-04-11 |

When I first saw this CD, it seemed to be a very good choice. I like blues music, a bigger band sound, Taylor Hicks is my favorite AI (with a good blues/soul voice) and all the reviews were enthusiastic about it.
Well.....not meaning to be a Simon Cowell, I was disappointed.
Granted, it is hard to include singers/musicians who have not worked with a band, but, in listening to this live CD (maybe the DVD is better), I found myself tiring of the prolonged crowd noise and just average musicianship.
The Memphis Blues Orchestra and singers are very earnest in their attempt to create a good time and the crowd was loud but, for me, not much translated into a good, live, well-performed concert.
I did like some cuts, "Killing Floor", an unusual approach to "Whipping Post", "Not Fade Away", but, again, for the most part, it was just ok.
As alternatives, I would recommend the following for 5 star, live, blues band adventures - Delbert McClinton, "Live on Austin City Limits"; The Love Dogs, "Live and On Fire" (short though); Siegel-Schwall Band Reunion Concert; and, of course, most Allman Brothers Band live work. |

Solid Southern-Rock Boogie Band Submitted on: 2009-03-24 |

The band previously known as the Taylor Hicks Band, here does their impression of a modern day Allman Brothers Band. They do a very nice job, but they lack the "elite" performer that would make them a top-notch band.
Their vocalists are fine, but until Taylor Hicks and Elliott Yamin add their voices in the third set, they lack that "oomph". Similarly, there is nothing wrong with their lead guitarist, but he's not Warren Haynes or Duane Allman.
I also found that there seemed to be a problem recording the keyboardist, who was pushed way down in the mix, especially on the first disc.
Overall, I would recommend this CD, but if your choive is this or the Allmans Fillmore album, go with the latter. |

| Live at the Workplay Theatre is destined to be a "Must Have" CD. This band is awesome and the "special guests" are out of this world. Buy the DVD of this event, too. You will not be sorry. Fabulous performances! |
