KD Lang can do no wrong Submitted on: 2009-07-11 |

| Let's face it: One is tempted to give KD Lang beaucoup stars every time she opens her mouth to sing. Is there anything she can't deliver on? One of the most gifted pop singers of our time, Lang is extraordinary even when the CD doesn't represent her best efforts. "Watershed" is a good album but it's not great, it's not iconic. It's like one long song with various tendrils and so all the songs have a tendency to blur together. And while it's difficult to critique someone as talented and pleasurable as Lang, her melted-chocolate-all-over-your-psyche approach is a tad forgettable here. I guess I want a hint of angst, some kind of psychological counterpoint, a sense that her perfect voice isn't just an end in itself, that there is some kind of message in a bottle that will wash up any minute. This is very pretty music, but it washes over you a little too easily. |

k d Lang is my muse when I write Submitted on: 2009-03-15 |

I LOVE this new CD---been a while, k.d. ---the deluxe WATERSHED set? I would recommend, too, for the live performances---esp "The Valley" (on the bonus CD). About WATERSHED: There is orchestral composition that we know is her mark---k.d. does something no one else does that is very special. Her voice and diction are perfect as always. Her work is monumental and singular: no one can do what she does.
k.d. Lang creates Beauty for the ear ---she crosses all boundaries with her plaintive and lovely phrasing.
---I think that is what I love about her Magic: k.d.'s music is more than hearing.
Thank You, Mary Helen Madrid-Null, author NAVAJO HEAT

Excellent, But, I want More! Submitted on: 2009-02-02 |

Big fan of of K.D.Lang since my introduction to her on her "SHADOWLAND" CD. Fell in love with that wonderful, fine voice that just resonates so well to the ear. I thought, WOW, this woman can sing, with such a voice that we just have not heard in many decades. Now, this Album is great, as to be expected of Ms Lang. However, this is not a review on this release, but more so a wish, of future things to come, hopefully. So Ms. Lang,if by chance you read these reviews ...
Just one wish, for myself, as well as many others out there who appreciate a fabulous singer.. That being, another recording of K.D. doing nothing but old American Standards, such as her duets recording with Tony Bennett, but this time, just herself. Recently, I heard a wonderfule CD, by a gentleman by name of Michael Ruhl, titled " HERE'S TO LIFE" The entire albm is outstanding, not only the selection of songs but the quality of this gentleman's voice. I immediately thought, wow, this could be a big hit, had it been recorded by K.D.Lang. In this album he sounds very much like K.D. singing, his phrasing, and the qauality of his voice, sounded so much like her. Infact, when I first heard it, not knowing it was he, I thought it was her, but knew it wasn't, as I have all of K.D.'s CD's and none of these songs were ever recorded by her with exception of "So In Love" by Cole Porter. That song is almost identical to her version on the Red White and Blue" CD and DVD (A tribute to Cole Porter, featuring various artist)and also available on K.D.s first LD and DVD release. I feel that if she did release such an album, not only would she win a whole new set of fans, but I'm sure she would most likely see a Grammy Nomination. Yea, I feel so strongly about that. Us older music lovers who appreciate good music and great singing would be most appreciative and would demonstrate it so by purchasing these albums. Mr Russell Watson is referred to as "The Voice" of the male singers, in my ears K.D.Lang is the female version of "The Voice", she's blessed with a very fine instrument, so rare these days. So Please K.D., spoil us a bit, and let us all hear you, young and old. |

Fabulous, beautiful stuff! Submitted on: 2009-01-01 |

| I hadn't listened to K.D. Lang in probably twenty years. I have her Shadowland and Torch & Twang albums on cassette - that's how long it's been. Found this CD in a Rite-Aid drugstore for a measly $4.99. What is wrong with this picture?! What is wrong with this country and the music industry? This is an absolutely beautiful album in every way - the arrangements, the multi-tracked vocal harmonies (all Lang), the ethereal lyrics and delivery. For $4.99??!! I mean, come on, people. How's a consumate artist like k.d. lang gonna make a living? I'm really not sure this downloading a tune-at-a-time is such a good idea for the people that make the music. I shouldn't complain, I suppose. But this is just a fabulously beautiful album. If you like purty music, BUY IT! YOU'LL LOVE IT! I'm gonna go listen to it again, okay? With headsets, which is always better. I like all the tracks, but the last one, "Jealous Dog," is so cool, with the banjo and piano combination. - Tim Bazzett, author of Pinhead: A Love Story |
