Best Moby in a long time! Submitted on: 2009-09-15 |

WOW! I was blown away by this album. It sounds like the Moby I think was at his prime back in the "Next is the E" and "Go" (song, not the album) days. For anyone who loves the oldschool Moby, get this, because you will love it or your money back*

Last Night Submitted on: 2009-06-04 |

| Last Night being Moby's 8th studio album and his 2008 release is an ok album that is just not all that interesting. Many tracks sound alike and sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between one track and another. Many sounds like subtle variations of the same track. There are exceptions though, "I'm in love" is a great track. I must say I was disappointed with this album. No lyrics are included but we do get liner notes written by Moby himself. 2/5. |

Dance music for connoisseurs Submitted on: 2009-02-16 |

Well, right off the bat I tend to disagree with the Amazon reviewer ... I thought "Hotel" was some of Moby's best work I'd ever heard. Although I can see how all the down tempo introspection would make Moby want to switch gears and head back to the dance floor, as he does with "Last Night."
Let's face it ... most dance music is really kind of silly, involving generic beats and nondescript vocals that sample or cover (and often ruin)good songs. Moby is one of the handful of artists that make dance music that is innovative, interesting, and vital. He's like a mad scientist, offering up collages that are sometimes sexy, sometimes strange, sometimes funny, and sometimes otherworldly. "Last Night" is dance music for connoisseurs. (It's also great to use on the eliptical machine.)

Soundtrack to nothing. Submitted on: 2008-12-09 |

| I have been a Moby fan for a very long time, but the 'creative stasis' referred to in the Amazon commentary above shows no signs of abating. I literally threw this CD away after two listenings because it was - well - boring. Early Moby moved back and forth between beautiful and/or disturbing layers of melody, punctuated by original sounding beats. Around the time that '18' came out, it seemed that Moby had run out of steam. I am all for artists reinventing themselves (think Eno, or Bowie for that matter) but Moby just seems to have run out of melodies and rhythms on this one. The whole thing sounds like it was played on autopilot, and is most definitely not a 'nostalgic nod' to his earlier dance music. It is lifeless and disappointing. Perhaps something important needs to happen in Moby's life outside of his music, so his compositions once again feel like they have a story, spirit or soul. |

Back to Play and Songs Submitted on: 2008-12-08 |

| This is classic Moby. It seems that after a little experimentation in a different direction with Hotel, this work has gone back to the mesmerizing and rhythmic synth pop with orchestral accompaniment weaving in the background that we heard in Moby Songs and Play. If you enjoyed those former works, you should surely enjoy this work too. |
