Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

Love Van, but...
Submitted on: 2009-09-20
Maybe on the 10th listening I'll discover something more, but what I was looking for wasn't there. Van has an incredible talent for writing beautiful melodies that are wonderfully obscured by his unique vocals, yet they come through gorgeously in the background through the talented musicians with whom he surrounds himself. No matter, I love the man, regardless. What a gift he is to us.
Not his best work

I read the reviews and bought it. I wonder who reviews these. Not my favorite. it is just OK. even my wife finds it so so.
Trying His Best
Submitted on: 2009-07-07
On the opening cut, titled "How Can a Poor Boy?," Van Morrison asks, "How can a poor boy get deliver this message to you?" Over the next 10 cuts, he then proceeds to preach, teach, and thoroughly reach us with message after message, all the while trying his best to remember to keep it simple after all. Even when he threatens to get carried away, an on "That's Entrainment" and "Behind the Ritual," where things can get a bit, uh, complicated, he manages to win us over with the bold simplicity of his musical vision. I still fondly recall the Poi Dog Pondering lyric that went, `If I die in a car wreck, let me have Van Morrison on the tape deck." Amen!
So-o-o-o good.

This music is so very good, though one might not realize it at first. It's truth at a vibrational level, like all good Irish music, blues, and ... Van Morrison, providing me with some healing actualization and uplift. (All I'm drinkin' is a smoothie.)
Absolute for fans!

For long time Van Morrison fans, this work shows how much versatility he has as well as where his roots are. He has talked in interviews about his fathers record collection that included Delta Blues, Jazz and regional music of days gone by. All this can be found and enjoyed in this work and the title song is a great reminder of how we should keep things. Van Morrison, I love each and every track!!! Bravo!
