Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

Probably the most catchy goregrind ever
Submitted on: 2009-10-18
Let me start off with this: I love Aborted. I was hooked back in the day when I first heard them on a free comp demo cd I picked up somewhere. I was primed in my younger youth on a steady diet of Napalm Death and Carcass, so this group hit familiar tones to my ears. If you are new to Aborted, this may be a good place to start... maybe. This disc definately shows Aborted taking steps into newer and arguably more accessible directions. The artwork and lyrical content will forever keep them on the fringes of the metal mainstream, but the overall groove and even melodic properties of this album make this a seemingly kinder and gentler Aborted. For the first several releases, Aborted seemed to be the next Carcass. In fact, the similarities were so striking that in some instances it seemed almost to be an imitation. Of course Aborted never has attained Michael Amott status on guitars, but who has really? On this disc Aborted hone their sound to a more unique signature. The same can be said for the Heartwork era Carcass material, but this is just, well, different. It is still pummeling. It is still offensive. It is still all the things that I came to love this band for. It just seems to be more focused and unique here. For those wanting to hear the more vintage Aborted sound, chech out Goremageddon or my personal favorite, The Archaic Abbatoir. This is just a very enjoyable death/gore/grind experience. For those of you familiar and into Aborted, check out System Divide. They feature members of Aborted in a true melodic/death/grind project with the signature Aborted grunts and growls mixed with some really good clean female vocals. They only have a 4-song E.P. out at the moment but check back here regularly to get your hands on their debut full length album early next year. From what I have heard it promises to be fantastic. I digress... this is well-rounded and articulate album. Some people will love it for those reasons, others may not. In my opinion, I dig the band maturing. Check it out. Four stars.
Not for original Aborted fans

If you like anything pre-Goremageddon from Aborted then you probably will not enjoy this. The construction of the riffs are great but it just doesn't have that amazing flow and catchy feel of Goremageddon.
A band going in the right direction with this album.

This album is a very vibrant mix of a few metal genre's including gore, grind, melodic death, and thrash. It came as a welcome surprise for me because I had always known about Aborted but was never interested as they seemed like yet another splatter metal band, which I do not prefer. The only band I personally listen to that can be considered comparable to Aborted on this album is Avulsed, who has always tried to mix melody and catchiness with the gore.

This album has outstanding guitar work, especially when it comes to the leads which shimmer in their melodic brilliance in many, many songs on this cd. The drummer has always been topnotch. He doesn't blast for no apparent reason at all or give you nothing but a flam/roll-fest that adds absolutelly nothing to the musical direction(unfortunatelly too many "extreme" drummers have no sense of taste when it comes to what goes where in a composition). He is quite skilled and shines on this album. The vocalists are outstanding for the genre as well and there is some great shadowplay between the different styles used during any given song.

The album itself is strong throughout. I found myself loving every minute of it from start to finish. There are no fillers. The only weak point is perhaps the lyrics, but eh, who really cares. No one listens to underground music for the lyrics in general, its about the music.

All in all I hope that Aborted keeps it up with their next release and brings it to the next level. If they do, they deserve to be ranked amongst some of todays best metal acts. Recommended to fans of Gore Metal, Thrash, and Melodic Death. It can easily please anyone into any of these genre's.
Moving in a different direction yet brutal as
