Hottest in the hood Submitted on: 2009-11-02 |

| The beats are hardhitting and eerie. The reality reflected is the cold neighborhoods of Detroit, MI where robberies, color schemes and uneven romances all are described by Elzhi. His lyrics are full of dazzling wordplay and sharp as a dagger viewpoints. Fans of Slum Village and the post-Pete Rock moody beats of Black Milk should own this masterpiece. |

Detroit All-star. Submitted on: 2009-10-12 |

| It's almost unimaginable how such skill and lyricism can come from one mind, especially from a detroiter. But Elzhi has easily become my favorite emcee. Get this album. Now. |

Album of the Year '08 Submitted on: 2009-06-04 |

I lost my original copy, but had to buy another one. This album is a certified CLASSIC.
IMO, this album and 'Nas - Untitled' are tied for the Album of the Year for 2008. Yet, if I had to pick one, 'The Preface' would be my pick for the best album of 2008.
Black Milk's production and Elzhi's lyrics, flow, content are a genuine breath of fresh air. This album is a must buy for any hip hop fan that places a premium on head-nodding beats and deft lyricism and wordplay. |
