a golden nugget shining brightly Submitted on: 2009-11-12 |

This album from Darius Rucker is full of brilliant songs! These numbers are very well done and Darius clearly possesses a rare type of genius for this art form. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is nicely done.
This CD has awesome songs and ballads and there's really not a single dud in the bunch. "Forever Road" starts the track set with a high energy tune that gets me tapping my feet to the beat even without my being conscious of it--great! The guitars are wonderful and the overall musical arrangement complements Darius' vocals very well. "All I Want" is excellent country music with Brad Paisley on guitar; and I really like "Don't Think I Don't Think about It" is a powerful, poignant ballad I won't forget anytime soon.
"Learn To Live," the title track, shines bright as Darius sings this out with genuine passion and it all holds its own very well. "If I Had Wings" is another moving ballad that Darius aces as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing; this track features backup vocals from Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. Not that Darius needed backup, but they certainly do sound very good. "History in the Making" is also wonderful; and there's yet another gem in "Alright." Terrific!
"Drinkin' And Dialin'" impresses me a lot; and "While I Still Got the Time" has that fantastic country flavor I enjoy so much. The album ends with "Be Wary of a Woman;" Darius does this without letting go of a single superfluous note and that's grand.
Not only is this album a must have for fans of Darius Rucker; it's also a great starter CD for people just discovering his artistry especially as a country music performer. We are all better off for Darius Rucker sharing his talent with us; and if we're lucky he'll continue to entertain us all for many, many years to come. Thank you, Darius Rucker--you are truly a country music champion!
