They Still Have It After All These Years Submitted on: 2009-04-01 |

If you're a Labelle fan you will appreciate this cd. Aptly titled "Back To Now," it reflects the style of music they've done throughout their career. "Roll Out," the track featuring Wyclef Jean shows their willingness to always try something new. That's the "Now" in cd's title
Back in their Bluebelle days they typically performed a standard in their show..."Danny Boy," "Over The Rainbow," and often closing their set with "You'll Never Walk Alone." Not to disappoint they close the cd with "Miss Otis Regrets," a Cole Porter standard. That's the "Back" in the title. The song has traditionally been used by female jazz vocalists to highlight their improvisation. It was daring for them to include this and they nail it. Their version is among the best I've heard.
The group's social consciousness is still in evident on three of the tracks, "The Truth Will Set You Free," "Tears For The World" and perhaps the most emotional track on the cd, "Dear Rosa," their tribute to Rosa Parks.
This cd is a must for any Labelle fan. While most classic groups have destroyed themselves as a result of shortsightedness and petty in-fighting, it is a testament to Patti, Nona and Sarah's love for each other and their fans that they are still artisitcally in synch after all these years.

IT"S LIKE THEY NEVER LEFT Submitted on: 2009-03-13 |

| FROM THE FIRST TRACK OF THIS NEW CD TO THE LAST TRACK, I WAS JUMPIMG AND CARRYING ON LIKE IT WAS "LABELLE" OF YEARS AGO. THE CD IS A GIANT RE-UNION OF PATTI,NONA AND SARAH AND THERE VOICES SOUND AS GOOD AS THEY DID 33 YEARS AGO. MY GOD, LISTENING TO THIS NEW "LABELLE" CD I SAID, R&B HAS REARED ITS GREAT HEAD AGAIN..IF YOUR TIRED OF ALL THIS HIP HOP CRAP THEN YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED WITH THE TRIUMPH OF A CD CALLED "BACK TO NOW". PEOPLE OUT THERE ARE STILL SINGING AND "LABELLE" PROVES IT. |

Who Left a Dance Track Off? Submitted on: 2009-03-06 |

One of the great things about Labelle was the ability of DJ's to remix their previous music into hot dance mixes. These ladies came before Madonna but seem to have gotten out of touch with the music world. They could learn from the Material Girl that if you don't have at least one track on your CD that DJ's can turn into a hot dance mix, you aren't going to see the sales that you'd see with a dance song played at clubs and on the radio.
This is most likely the reason after their super hit, Lady Marmalade, which was played all over the radio and in dance clubs, that Labelle as a group never saw a single off any of their albumns they made after Lady Marmalade, hit the heights or bring them the sales that having a very danceable song like Lady Marmalade did. Word up Ladies, get your producer to put a dance track on your next CD or end up in the bargain bin. |
