'Loreena Mckennitt' Christmas music Submitted on: 2009-09-07 |
|
| I have enjoyed her music for years, and this CD doesn't loose any of the special nuances of her vocal range. Could not wait until Christms to listen to it, and then again it will also be enjoyed when Christmas is here again. |

She's like sheer magic Submitted on: 2009-02-27 |

| I am always figuratively entranced when I listen to a Loreena McKennitt song. The depth and the soul, and the artistry, found within them. With this cd, she completes one of her previous recordings, "A winter garden," creating a beautiful new Christmas album. One can almost feel an invocation of the winter spirits. As usual, her singing is grand and her music is better. This cd is quite worth it. |

The mystery of Christmas Submitted on: 2009-02-18 |
|
The Christmas season has always evoked a sense of wonder and mystery for me, and A MIDWINTER NIGHT'S DREAM perfectly captures those emotions. Each song conveys that same sense of anticipation mixed with mystery that I used to get when staying up late at night reading Christmas stories as a child. The songs are beautifully sung by Loreena, and each is given its proper attention so that this album (and it is an album, not a random assortment of Christmas boiler plate like most artists release) feels highly polished and cohesive.
The songs are not stereotypical Christmas fare, and include very few well known songs. Instead, Loreena has focused on older, rarer songs, each of which is compelling in it's own way. If you already know and love McKennitt, buying this collection is a must. If you're unfamiliar with her but are looking for an interesting, non-traditional Christmas album, again this is a must.
4/5 Stars. Another strong effort from one of my favorite female vocalists.
