It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This Submitted on: 2009-09-07 |

At least not as far as 80's heavy metal goes. Ratt was firing on all cylinders for their debut. The album had everything an 80's metal head could want, catchy riffs, sing along choruses, incredible lead guitar playing (more on that in a minute), well written songs, and typical "sleaze" 80's based lyrics (meaning cheesy but classic). The musicianship of the band really made them stand out from all the other metal bands out there at the time. The metal scene was so crowded with bands during that time (1984) but most of them stunk, so it was easy for a band like Ratt to stand out from the horde.
Speaking of musicianship, Warren Demartini's playing on this album is incredible, and easily the best of any Ratt album to follow. Demartini really had a flashy style on this album, but it was flash filled with substance. His playing was very legato and lyrical, with expressive use of the whammy bar, tasteful pinch harmonics, and incredible vibrato. In subsequent Ratt albums his solo style took a decided turn to a more bluesy feel, with fast pentatonic runs replacing the long, fluid legato lines of the first album. This is not to say his playing got bad on later albums, far from it, just that his playing style on Out of the Cellar was not to be repeated on subsequent albums. Standout solos featuring the legato style I speak of are Back for More, I'm Insane, In Your Direction, The Morning After, Round and Round, and Wanted Man.
If you were an 80's metal fan you already own this album, but if you're a youngster thinking of dipping your toe in the 80's metal pool, this would be a perfect place to start. They don't make music like this any more (unfortunately). |

Great record, best of its era! Submitted on: 2009-07-24 |

Ratt's Out of the Cellar is a awesome record filled with great songs and performances by all of the band members. I consider this record to be stronger than Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil, which many consider to be the best record of that genre of music. When you consider that this was Ratt's first full length record, its all the more impressive. This record had a monster hit in Round and Round, but Wanted Man, Back for More and Lack of communications were just as good if not better. Those songs sound as great today and they did back then and have really stood the test of time. This record also had songs I'm Insane, You're in Trouble and Scene of the Crime which were very underated and have become fan favorites over the years. Juan , Robin, and Bobby made up a killer rythem section and Warren's leads are some of the best ever by a hard rock guitarist. Stephens singing and delivery was perfect for this time of music also.
This band also delivers these songs live and was not a studio band as these songs come alive in concert with a all new energy.
Great songs, great musicianship, and what a great job Beau Hill did in producing this record and getting a powerful rock sound. |

| ratt is by far my favorite band. this is their best work although invasion of your privacy was also a great album. this has all the feel of a good hair metal band plus a lot of talent. anyone who likes 80's metal even more if you love hair metal and glam should listen to this. ratt is by far the most under rated band of the decade. they are one of the kings of the genre and anyone who likes motley crue or quiet riot needs to check out ratt! |

Not a remaster!!! Submitted on: 2008-07-13 |

| I've been waiting for a long time to see "Out Of The Cellar" remastered, checking for such quite often. Imagine my delight when I saw the disc on Amazon as "Original recording remastered"! I immediately fired off an order. Now imagine my chagrin when I received the disc only to discover it to be the exact same crappy sounding original release I already have! Fortunately I didn't remove the shrink wrap - Back to Amazon it goes... |
