No variety Submitted on: 2009-07-09 |

| I bought this CD and another one by the same artist based on one song I heard. Unfortunately, the song I liked was the best one and both albums sound exactly the same. There is no variety and after three songs I have to turn it off. |

Soothing, claming,...... Submitted on: 2009-06-08 |

| The album is very easy to listen to with a flow that you won't need to press skip to the next song, which I did sometimes on other people's albums. |

... a true testament to being true ... Submitted on: 2009-06-06 |

| As on her last two discs, Peyroux sings and plays dry, dry, dry. This suppression of audible sound processing gives her recordings a small, house-concert atmosphere -- like she's sitting right across from you. Every squeak of the guitar strings, every glottal click of her tongue is captured in all the raw glory. Unlike her past recordings, Bare Bones is completely comprised of songs written or co-written by Peyroux herself. Much of the material is done in a confessional, Joni-Mitchell style. The standout track, reportedly inspired by Buddhist author Pema Chodron's book When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times, is the opener, "Instead," wherein Peyroux waxes positive on positive thinking ("instead of wastin' time, feel good 'bout what you're dreamin' of."). Bare Bones is a testament to being true to oneself. |

Peyroux Proves Up To The Challenge of Recording A Modern Record Submitted on: 2009-05-31 |
|
"Bare Bones" is Madeleine Peyroux's first attempt at recording "modern" music, which for her means a non-Billie Holliday sounding, non-traditional jazz sound where she has written or co-written all 11 songs on the record.
Her voice still sounds like Holliday's, but the songs on this record, while similar to previous Ms. Peyroux's recordings about love, loss, and modern living sounds like early 21st century life as opposed to early to mid 20th century life. And though her voice has previous sounded like it should only sings old jazz standards, Ms. Peyroux proves that she has the talent, both vocally and in her songwriting to be considered not only a classic artist, but a contemporary one. |

| Much as I like Madeleine Peyroux, I feel that she gave a better show when she did other peoples songs as well as hers on a disc. It makes for a very monotanous record, even though her own songs are on the whole good, if very Joni Mitchell! |
