French temptress meets American lounge singer Submitted on: 2009-11-21 |

| Melody Gardot is a spectacular artist. Her voice is thin but full of emotion, the music is rich, and the lyrics are poetic. The CD feels dark, emotional, unapologetic. `My One and Only Thrill' is even better than the original! |

Excellent music, Beautiful, Soulful. Submitted on: 2009-10-21 |

| I stumbled onto Melody Gardot totally by accident. I was doing a general search of jazz on Amazon and was intrigued by this selection. Listened to the samples, was impressed. I'm not a jazz snob nor an aficionado but i do know what i like. Expecting the smarmy undertones of Kenny G or Michael Buble, I was pleased to find a warm sultry voice backed by strong musicianship. The strings on the tracks that contain them enhance the romance of love, the loss of love, and do not detract from the vibe of the album. Love the bluesy jazz feel of Melody's voice. Reminds me of early Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday. I have become a fan of this woman and hope that she will continue to put out excellent jazz albums such as this. |

Great singer and composer ! Submitted on: 2009-10-06 |

Melody Gardot is a great singer and composer;
because she wrote al her own material for this
CD except one (Over The Rainbow) it takes a
few listenings to get to know the songs.
But after that : great variety of songs and
a pleasant voice to listen to. Keep up the
good work, Melody ! |

Gardot makes everything OK Submitted on: 2009-10-01 |

| It's hard to believe that this is only Gardot's second full-length release, particularly when compared against the squawky, piano-driven, home-demo debut EP that preceded last year's awesome Worrisome Heart. Produced by the venerable Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell's ex), My One and Only Thrill is all mood, all noir, all whispers in the night. From the first string-laden strains of "Baby I'm a Fool," Gardot evokes Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, and Astrud Gilberto in one breath. Much of the material is themed on longing, offset by bits of Braziliana. Titles like "Who Will Comfort Me," "Lover Undercover," "Over the Rainbow," and "Your Heart Is as Black as Night" suggest a set awash in self-pity, but Gardot's delicate delivery makes everything okay. And her second, orchestral take on "If the Stars Were Mine" leaves you looking up. |

I Wish I Had Six Stars To Give! Submitted on: 2009-09-26 |

"My One and Only Thrill" is one of the best jazz records ever. It definitely positions Melody Gardot as one the of the preiminent jazz artists of this or any generation.
The only cover on this record is "Over The Record," and even it seems fresh and reinvigorated, even though it is relentlessly covered by jazz musicians. But it is the other songs, all written by Gardot, showing a range of tenderness, bitterness, and unrestrained, unvarnished romanticism and guided by her beautiful, emotional voice, that set this record above all the rest. Songs like "Baby, I'm A Fool," "If The Stars Were Mine," "Our Love Is Easy," "The Rain," and every other cut on this record show an artist who can convey feelings and emotions with the greatest of recording artists.
My One and Only Thrill is an absolute must for any jazz music lover, and actually, a must for any music lover regardless of genre. |
