Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

It's MISSING THREE SONGS. INCOMPLETE RECORDING.
Submitted on: 2009-11-12
I have the COMPLETE Cardiff Wales show on CDR and it is a mint condition recording. The recording that is being sold is missing three songs, the songs listed by another person who bothered to comment. The audio of this show is GOOD but Ronnie Van Zant had been SICK. The man was nearly hoarse just a day or two earlier. The Old Grey Whistle Test show which is complete and on DVD also suffers from Ronnie's cold. Days earlier Ronnie and the band had been in Paris, France. I have that recording also. Ronnie was quite sick. He had a massive head cold and he sounded more like Danny Joe Brown, the one time vocalist for Molly Hatchet. The fact that Ronnie had been SICK was the REASON that this show was NEVER released commercially. I understand that people want to hear the show, and it's good that the show got released, but why not simply release the entire show???? I think it was on Simple Man, one of the deleted tracks where Ronnie's voice litterally broke as he was trying to sing. I considered buying a copy of this for myself until I read where the show had been edited down to only 9 of the recorded twelve songs. People are getting screwed on this release.

Great Live Skynyrd Show, Even If It's Edited

This is a great recording of a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Cardiff, Wales. In order to appreciate the album's sound, you need to remember that guitarist Ed King had left the group before this concert, which meant that guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins had to play HIS parts AND theirs in order to weave the sound into a harmonious whole. Believe it or not, they succeeded, making it terribly unfortunate that 20 minutes were edited out of the show for this CD. Unfortunately, one song that was cut was "Simple Man." Nevertheless, this is a great example of a band rising to the occasion in the wake of a major personnel change.

Com dois guitarristas, o show não perde a sonoridade característica da banda.
Já tinha ouvido The Needle and the Spoon ou Double Trouble nesta fase?
O show é matador!
Não deixe de comprar o outro Bootleg autorizado: Winterland 76.
Why? Why? Why?

I don't understand why this would be released in edited form? The circulating bootlegs are complete, this "official" bootleg is missing "I Got The Same Old Blues", "Simple Man" (unforgivable) and "T For Texas". In addition most of the between song chatter has been removed such as before "Freebird" when Ronnie thanks the Welsh people and dedicates the song to Duane, Greg and the Allman Brothers. They cut an excellent 70 minute show down to an average 50 minute show. It's a great show so if you don't own it, get it but why would it not be released complete!!!

It's not like the label doesn't own the missing songs, "I Got The Same Old Blues" was released on the Deluxe Edition of "Gimme Back My Bullets". No reason to not include it (or the others).

Now I'll have to check Winterland!
I forgot how good they were

Vintage Skynyrd is long overdue. The set is strong and sounds good.
The real win here is Skynyrd using 2 guitars and not 3. They were known for the triple ax attack but this shows how truly good/great rossington and collins could play. The band sounds is rich, full and a little gritty and dirty at the same time. what's nice is this the band on any night on the road a true snap shot. Not a live alblum planned in advance.
Artemis Pyle sounded big. Besides being a great frint man and singer for this band, Ronnie could flat our write.
I got away from Skynyrd for a longtime, but this makes them sound fresh and relevant again.
