Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

I loved the live song additions for this compilation
Submitted on: 2009-11-14
I didn't give it 5-stars because it doesn't include my wife's and my favorite George Harrison song, "The Art of Dying." I especially liked the 1-star reviews as they showed me what else I need to find in his catalogue to become a true fan. To echo those one star criticisms, I quote from the fine glossy booklet included with the disc:

"Let it Roll: Songs by Geoge Harrison, is a gathering of material that takes us far into the territory that was ultimately a place unique to George Harrison. Here was an individual writing songs such as "The Art of Dying" and "All Things Must Pass" while still in his twenties, a giant of popular music whose life so often defied what we think we know of as the pop star".

But, guess what? "The Art of Dying" is not included in the material! But, as it goes, this compilation (not a "Greatest Hits") is worth adding to your collection.

George Harrison masterpiece

Being the Beatle lover that I am, I have naturally experienced all 4 of the guys music, but I really love the sincerity that George Harrison had. His words were of a simplicity in the world, love of our brother and peace. I truly miss him. Lyn F
Great Collection
Submitted on: 2009-10-14
This remastered collection is way overdue. All of the songs are great and the lesser known ones are a real surprise in terms of quality. George is the ex-Beatle who improved the most vocally. He became a very expressive singer as the years rolled on. George was also a very under-rated guitar player. Never flashy, he always played with restraint and feeling and never wasted a note. I always enjoyed the way he would bend a key note one-half step higher than most other guitar players to give a riff that extra flavor. He didn't start playing slide until his solo career and he turned out to be one of the best rock slide guitarists ever. Although the songs on this collection are consistently strong, it's still missing some key cuts such as "If Not For You", "You", etc. I am somewhat disappointed with the packaging. It would have been more appropriate to have recording dates, release dates, and chart information listed for each song. However, this is an essential and highly recommended collection of Harrison's solo material.
Let It Roll George! 4 1/2 stars!

This CD is a very good overview of George's solo career with a few live cuts of some of his best Beatles songs taken from The Concert for Bangladesh. It's a great place to start if you're just discovering Harrison. The remastered sound is excellent. It comes in a very sturdy, shiny, dual-fold cardboard digipak (actually one of the nicer ones I've seen - not cheap at all) I'm a fan of the jewel case but this one is pretty well made. Nice liner notes and pictures of George. 4 and 1/2 stars... Check it out!
Where is "Beware of Darkness" & "Devil's Radio" & Crackerbox Palace?
Submitted on: 2009-10-13

OK, I'll admit: this release annoys me. I've been waiting for a definitive George Harrison repackaging that includes his best rock songs and omits the pop ones. This new release omits some of his key rockers:
- Beware of Darkness
- Devil's Radio
- Crackerbox Palace
- (I Am A )Dark Horse
- You
- No Travelling Wilburys songs (End of the Line, Handle With Care- Harrison penned)
- Cloud Nine
- If Not For You

I just don't understand how ANYONE with access to his catalog hasn't figured out by now that NO Harrison Compilation album/cd has been inclusive yet.
Some of the compilations I understand: they only covered the early George Harrison on Apple, or Dark Horse, or his later albums, but NONE of them include his best material. Whoever is selecting these are missing the boat on a huge money-maker that would include some of George's best hits and best rockers.

The remastering is fine, but some of the songs sound 'too clean' for me. Harrison was best when he sounded fresh and acoustic, and not over-produced. The albums that WERE over-produced tanked and sold so poorly they went out of production for 17 years in CD form.

If you were looking for 'Something' that covered Harrison Post-Beatles period inclusively, this ain't it. Still, song for song, they are excellent, even great, but the Harrison Catalog people missed a golden opportunity for a George Harrison album that hasn't been released yet.
