Love it!

Farm. What can I say. Better and better with every listen. Probably on my 25th listen thru the entire album.

It is really hard fo me to rate which Dinosaur album I like best. It depends on my mood.

But most listens ever (entire album):

Green Mind
YLAOM
(Farm)*
Bug
Where you Been
Beyond
Hand it Over
Without a Sound
Dinosaur

Farm has moved up to 3rd on most entire album listens. I cannot say it's the best album of 2009, because I don't buy a heck of a lot of new music, but I can undeniaby tell you that if you like Dinosaur Jr., you will really like this album.

Every song is a gem, and Barlow's tune, 'your weather,' may actually be the best, and I'm one of those fans who leans heavily towards J. 'Oceans in the way' could be the best tune on Farm, but it's not really about rating best, it's about the sound of the album, the mood it puts you in, the subject matter. It's all good here. It's honest, poignant, heartfelt, loud, and still has tracks that are tough fun throughout.

Whenever J. croons about being sad, or fearful, he is meaning it, but there isn't the baggage of any anxiety that could go along with those feelings. Dinosaur always feels good to me. It's always fun. Brings you down to earth and is a release at the same time.

Anyway, this is a band that seems to love each other now. There damn good, best 3 piece band in the land!
Beautifully Sad...

The ninth studio album from Dinosaur jr. is, for lack of a better word, incredible. Farm is actually the only album of theirs I own as I have not been listening to them for very long. But even a previously casual listener to Dinosaur jr. can respect an album of such amazing instrumental and lyrical quality. Even if judging mostly from Farm alone, I can say that J Mascis is one of, if not the best guitarist of the last twenty years (ahead of Daron Malakian of SOAD, Synyster Gates of A7X, and Dan Donegan of Disturbed of the last decade, and up there with Kurt Kobain of Nirvana, Michael McCready of Pearl Jam, and Kirk Hammet of Metallica form earlier years). He is not quite a shredder, but his intricate solos show his unbelievable knowledge of the instrument. The guitar, along with the catchy rhythms and grungy vocals, in each song make Farm the perfect album for any fans of grunge/post-grunge, alternative, or metal music.
I would have to say that my favorite song on the album would have to be See You, which is just beautifully sad, with its slow tempo and saddened vocals; matched with J. Mascis' guitar, which is quite simple, but intricately layered and constantly repeated creating a magnificent jam, sounding somewhere between grunge and blues. The next best songs on the album are, in this order, Said The People, I Don't Wanna Go There, Plans, and Over It (the longest songs seem to be the most captivating). Simply said, Farm will be one of the top three albums of 2009.
Dinosaur Jr are still making great music

After their previous comeback album Beyond, I didn't think they had another one as good in them. But Farm is on par with Beyond and both rank up there with their probable previous best - You're Living All Over Me. This was one of the reunions that have happened in recent years that: 1)wasn't just about money, and 2)put an original classic lineup back together who still has something worthwhile to do artistically.
They are really back together.

It's funny how it grows on you just like the cover. I only hope after their massive world tour they have the energy to make another one.
An American Classic

This is the rock album of the year.

1. Buy it
2. Listen to it
3. Repeat step 2

I was floored when "Beyond" came out. I was always a huge fan of the band, and was absolutely overjoyed to hear they got back together. When I listened to that album for the first time, I felt like it was 1989 all over again, but in a good and relavent way. That great feeling I got with "Beyond", is present ten-fold with "Farm".

"Plans", "Said The People", and "I Don't Wanna Go There" are instant American classics. They're catchy and substantive. Not always an easy combo to find. Hearing Barlow sing "Imagination Blind" and "Your Weather" is a wonderful thing. More bands should mix up the singing duties. It just completely diversifies a band's sound.

Oh, and even if you don't like amazing music, you should buy the album just for the art. I haven't smoked weed in years, but it ALMOST makes me want to puff again:P I might even buy the vinyl just for the creepy, but very cool art.

The extra tracks are very sweet.

Buy it now.
