Best effort yet Submitted on: 2009-09-28 |

I've been a fan of Riverside since their 2003 album "out of Myself". This album sees them change their style a bit, without losing their identity. Compared to their earlier albums, this one is a bit more "metal" and a bit more technical, but still has the more atmospheric elements reminiscent of Pink Floyd.
Anno Domini High Defnition is relatively short, at 44:44, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There are no filler tracks on this album or songs extended for no reason other than to make them longer - every song is excellent in itself. Overall, this is probably the best album I've heard this year, and highly recommended for anyone who likes Riverside, as well as fans of groups like Porcupine Tree, or progressive metal in general.
The DVD is a nice bonus - obviously lower budget than an independent DVD would be, but an opportunity to see what the band are like live. It's not necessarily something I'd watch again and again though. |

| I discovered Riverside a few years ago and they now might be my second favorite band (I don't think anyone will ever top Tool). All of their records are excellent. Great musicianship and lyrics. This record took a bit to grow on me, which isn't unusual for songs of this length. But I'm now convinced that this is their best yet. The song structures are amazing. Left Out is an emotional song to me. It stands out in a record of 5 brilliant songs. If you are interested in this at all, buy it. Listen several times. You won't be disappointed. (And if you haven't checked out Lunatic Soul yet, go there next. Great side project.) |

WOW...did it ever grow on me!! Submitted on: 2009-08-31 |

Upon first listen this CD didn't impress me as much as Second Life Syndrome and Rapid Eye Movement but, in recent memory, I can't think of a better example of "That one REALLY grew on me!!" Now it's tied for 2nd with 2nd life, though I still think REM is their best effort to date. But this CD definitely proves one thing if nothing else, their song writing skills are growing by leaps and bounds.
And it's also hard to pick a favorite at this point, I don't think I've NOT listened to the entire thing, even on my MP3 player. Though the last ones, "Left Out" and "Hybrid Times" (the long ones), pack a heck of a 1-2 punch!!
At this point I think it goes without saying to get the version with the bonus DVD. Since spring me & my buddies have been complaining (on message boards and in chat rooms) about the lack of a live DVD, guess they heard us!!! :)
While the DVD doesn't have my single favorite song, Cybernetic Pillow, it does have 3 of my top 5: Beyond the Eyelids, 02 Panic Room and Ultimate Trip (Rainbow Box being the fifth) so....how can I lose?!?! And, while it's only stereo, no 5.1, it sounds just fine, very well produced!
If you like Riverside there is NO way you'll be disappointed, especially a month later. And if you like powerprog, progmetal, symphonic metal (whatever they're calling it this week) and want to check out Riverside, I'd say start with this because of the DVD. I still think REM is their best album.....by a hair.
Now...if we could just get them to tour over here, preferably opening for someone like Porcupine Tree or Tool...I'd be a happy man! |

Amazing Progressive Rock/Metal..as usual :0) Submitted on: 2009-08-20 |

This is one of my favorite Prog bands in the last 5 years..I have every album and this one is no different, great Melodies, riffs, bass lines, keyboards, and production is amazing. Take TOOL mix with Dream Theater and some old school prog rock and you have Riverside. If you enjoyed the other albums then this is a "Must have". The musician are superb :
* Mariusz Duda - lead vocals, bass guitar, acoustic guitar
* Piotr Grudziski - guitars
* Piotr Kozieradzki - drums
* Micha apaj - keyboards, backing vocals
Here's a quote from Mariusz Duda:
"We have gone from Warsaw, we have changed the studio and the producer. We care deeply about creating a coherent record and that is why most probably there are only going to be 5 songs on it. The material will be energetic, multifarious, and - I hope so - very good for live performances. It will be a story about liquid modernity, life in a constant hurry, stress and anxiety about the future. A picture of our times in 1920 x 1080 definition."
Enjoy... |

| This album is simply amazing. It has a slightly different feel than their previous efforts but it is a good thing. Few bands these days actually get better from release to release. Riverside is such a band. I've been a fan since just after their 2nd album and each release since then has been better and better. ADHD is an intense listen and you pick up new things each time you listen to it. I think track 2 and 4 are my current fav's. The outro jam on Left Out is just awesome. One of my favorite things about Riverside has always been the bass work and vocals, both handled by frontman Maruiusz Duda. The man is a true musician. One of my complaints of previous Riverside was the guitar work wasn't as prominent as I tend to like in my music. This album offers much stronger guitar and keyboard, in my opinion, and it adds a whole new level to the overall quality of Riverside. Do yourself a favor and buy this album, you will not regret it. |
