a-ha? A-HA! Submitted on: 2009-11-11 |

| I've been an a-ha fan since seeing them tour with their first album. After listening to them over the years I have enjoyed each release more than the last. This is unequivocally their best recording to date. |

A-ha Version 3.0 Submitted on: 2009-11-08 |

A-ha has been part of collection for the past 25 years. As such, I have a different take on this album and what has led to this musical release. Unlike most, I felt their earlier work was fine but not outstanding. After reforming they continued to move in a direction that "East of the Sun / West of the Moon" began. "Analogue" was their most consistent and finest moment. Expansive, plaintive and dour all in the same breath. Those who hold tight to albums such as "Scoundrel Days" must understand that they were still in the process of blossoming.
We now come full circle with "Foot of the Mountain." Morten Harkett's voice has never been as clear and mature as on this release. Songs such as "Shadowside" soar with strings ablaze and guitars washing over us. One can see where Keane has found inspiration. This album seems to meld earlier synth influences with their more current guitar flourishes creating a nice mix of old and new. "What There Is" uses a gentle electro-inspired movement without overproduction that their early releases suffered from. "The Bandstand" would fit nicely alongside current purveyors of Nordic and electro flavored pop such as Annie, HK119, Dragonette or Empire of the Sun. "Riding the Crest" has synth pads channeling Gary Numan in their usage. Most songs soar and that is not something one can say with recent A-ha releases.
While the album is not without some slower moments I digress to let you decide what merits each song impacts you.
I strongly recommend it especially in light of their breakup after their final farewell tour.
Happy listening!! |

Another excellent album Submitted on: 2009-11-06 |

| I have been an A-Ha fan for years (saw them in New York in 2005) and have all their albums. I was very excited when I found this new album online. I have to admit that I don't care for a couple of the songs: "Start the Simulator" irks me and "Riding the Crest" is a bit repetitive (though parts of it get stuck in my head). However, there are amazing songs on here. "The Bandstand" is outstanding - the music caught me in the first seconds. "What There Is" touches me deep inside. "Foot of the Mountain" is delightful. "Shadowside" makes me a little sad but in a good way. Overall I have to say this is another excellent album from my favorite band. |

One last time of Greatness Submitted on: 2009-10-22 |

This album is simply amazing and quite a return to form after the mildly lackluster Analogue. A-ha has been a long time favorite of mine and I have pretty much everything they have released with some good, some not so great but mostly amazing. This is one of the best ever for them and it is kind of return to their roots. I love the mix of synthesizers and guitars and the melodies are still extremely strong. "Foot of the Mountain" is such a great single and one I keep playing over and over.
It is sad that this return to their roots album is going to be their last. After 27 years they are calling it quits and going off to pursue other interests. One can only hope they will have a change of heart someday but... This is a fitting send off for such an amazing group who have endured almost three dacades of musical change and done it with such style and grace, sounding even better today then they did way back when, in their first efforts.
Yes, "Take On Me" will always be on the top of my favorites list from them, but I think they are much stronger and more complete as a group today. I will continue to follow their solo eforts and can only hope for some kind of A-ha feel from them. I also will be looking to see them on their fairwell tour this coming year. Thanks for the wonderful parting gift. |

| The item is an excellent work from a-ha and team. It was based in the first sound of a-ha in the 80's whitch is come back very well adapted for the current music withou losing the a-ha's characteristic. I usually say 'this is one more excellent work of a-ha' |
