Electrosensitive
Submitted on: 2009-08-20
Steve Miller (Afterlife) has blessed us once again with his latest offering of smooth grooves and chilled beats, "Electrosensitive" (The album's title stems from a condition that Steve Miller suffers from, a special kind of sensitivity to wi-fi). This album features a few new tracks, I only consider only some of them to be "new" since about half have been featured on various compilations over the past few years, regardless it is quite wonderful to have most of them gathered on one album. Old fans will definitely be pleased to hear that this album is by far the "smoothest" Afterlife album to date. The "vibe" of this album is somewhat like "The Afterlife Lounge" album, by this I mean that alot of the songs are midtempo, think "Bacalao" or the two "Dos Hombres" tracks featured on "The Afterlife Lounge", but don't fret, some of the songs on this album are a bit more chilled, take "Far Away" and "Midnight" for example. The Electrosensitive track list is as follows:

This Earth feat. Angela John /aka Neve (track was previously featured on Private Beach Club II)
A Feeling (a collaboration featuring Chris Coco, reminds me a little of City Reverb, a band which Chris Coco is in)
Far Away feat. Juanita Grande (a very deeply chilled track)
Half Time feat. Federica (previously featured on a few comps like Sound of Renaissance Vol. 3)
Black Iris feat. Angela John
Let It Go feat. Cathy Battistessa (previously featured on The Afterlife Lounge)
L'Attitude
Fantasy feat. Sharon Musgrave
Elijah feat. Angela John
Sunfish (track was previouly featured on Private Beach Club II)
National Dobro
Midnight (track was previously featured on Metropolitan Lounge, a best of Afterlife album)
Parkour
Lay Your Love feat. Angela John
Waterfront Dub

If you are a fan of the previous Afterlife albums, then you can add "Electrosensitive" to you collection without any worries, you won't be disapointed, but if you are new to his work then you will most likely enjoy this album if you are a fan of the lounge/chill genre. Just like wine, Steve Miller's skills as a producer only improve with the years and this is an album that you will definitely want to savor to it's last drop. Enjoy.

Also, keep an eye out for Private Beach Club III which was compiled by the man himself, Steve Miller, and an album by the Normalites, which is a collaboration between Steve Miller and Chris Coco.
