THE GREATEST GOT BETTER Submitted on: 2009-11-23 |

| BEFORE I PURCHASED THE STEREO BOX SET I READ ALOT OF THE REVIEWS. IN PARTICULAR THOSE REVIEWS THAT WERE NOT VERY FAVORABLE. IF YOU ARE A BEATLE'S FAN DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE REVIEWS. THE BOX SET IS GREAT!! THE SOUND IS TERRIFIC AND I'M ENJOYING THE MUSIC OF MY YOUTH ONCE AGAIN. IF I WAS TO BE CRITICAL ABOUT ANYTHING IT WOULD BE THAT THE CDS ARE NOT EASILY RETRIEVABLE OUT OF THE BOX. A MINOR ANNOYANCE THAT IN THE END SHOULD NOT MATTER. ANYONE WHO IS A BEATLE'S FAN WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ENJOY THE MOMENT!! |

Damaged Goods Submitted on: 2009-11-22 |

| I was looking forward to receiving the Beatles Stereo for my birthday but when I opened it on the inside of the sleeve; one of the corners was crunched. For $179 I was disappointed with the conditioned when I opened it today. Now I did open the set and open one of the cds before I noticed the damage so I doubt it's returnable. But I want you to know I am very disappointed in the condition upon opening. I was really, really looking forward to this gift. |

dissapointed Submitted on: 2009-11-22 |

| i caved in and decided to buy both sets as i am after all as a beatles fan.what gets me is the price of these sets.they dont come cheap!.i can see however why the mono sets are much more expensive.for a start they are made in japan where the quality is more pristine than the american sets.they even sound better than if they were made in uk/america...even the card sleeves etc are of a better quality.just one thing dissapoints me is i wish they would do an alternative version in a remixed stereo set as i still prefer alternative mixes to the original.songs like on ..submarine songbook sound awhole lot better than original mix.i still cant listen to stereo versions of paperback writer, slow down, long tall sally, flying etc..theres just no depth to these mixes.so until remix comes along its back to mono versions where appropriate.thats why i bought both so i can mix up all the good versions on my playlist and be reasonably happy.i dont care if they were to use compression on songs like i want to hold your hand(love album-great!)as this does in fact give alot more oomph!!!more balls of bass etc..more depth of sound!lets do this before fans really do lose interest.i can see why older fans (such as myself even) still want to rekindle that memory associated with the origina mix but after getting overt that i still crave for alterenative versions.... |

Sound Savor: "Moments of Clarity" Submitted on: 2009-11-22 |

My first inclination when adding the remastered versions of The Beatles catalog was to immediately delete the old C.D. versions from my i-Tunes library to free up space. However, after listening to the new C.D.'s (about one a day as a special treat) I discovered the difference of my newfound treasure.
Originally, I came upon the news of the remastered works of The Beatles as a mixed blessing: I was skeptical of the quality, yet I embraced any improvement of my favorite rock band's portfolio. Nevertheless, it isn't hard to think of each new advance in technology as another scheme to get consumers to start all over--and make everyone richer once again. I resolved to try `Revolver (Remastered),` my favorite Beatles' album, and then get another one every year thereafter. (I was a bit miffed because about a year or so before the remastered recordings arrived, I had just finished replacing every album in this boxed set on C.D.. That's a different story, but I'm sure many people can relate to my predicament.)
The difference between the old and new C.D.'s was (and is) striking. A comparison in my I-tunes library was obvious: The new master of 'With The Beatles (Remastered)' is richer and clearer. I don't have the most discerning ear, but the new versions are definitely better. With each C.D. I tried it out on the C.D. player, in the car stereo, and on the I-pod.
Here are some startling examples: "Michelle" in the I-pod blew me away: 'Rubber Soul (Remastered)' surely has a magnificent texture to begin with, but the new sound is even more terrific! (The rewards of listening to the new versions on the i-Pod are immediate.) When listening to "Strawberry Fields Forever," in the car, the cellos became so distinct, it isn't an exaggeration to say they are now tangible as well as audible. Upon further listening I discovered "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" doesn't sound as murky, and the brass on "Martha My Dear" has superb clarity. These were the times when I was floored by the difference. All the rest of the sound tests found the collection still detectably worthwhile, only not quite as ear-blowing.
I was first enticed to get the boxed set when Amazon sent a video advertisement heralding the new selections. I did a comparison between "Here, There, and Everywhere" from their preview sampler and the one in my library, and I felt the need to move more quickly on the bonanza.
Fortunately for me, Santa Claus came early, and an unnamed benefactor solved my problem of coveting a truly memorable step up in Beatles' music history. I hope he's as good to you--either from the giving or receiving end--as he was to me.
Thanks for reading, and happy holidays!
Rocky Raccoon :>)
(PS The Amazon sampler and description are enticing, but, if you're not convinced, I encourage you to read 'Rolling Stone's concise and convincing review of the boxed set--available online at [...]) |

Stunning collection is a must-have for any Beatles fan Submitted on: 2009-11-21 |

For some reason I was highly sceptical of the remastered stereo box set, and hence I did not purchase it right away when it came out in September. But then by chance I had the opportunity to check out one of these albums in the set ("With the Beatles", actually) and I was stunned at what I saw and heard. I finally ordered the set here on Amazon at a very good price, and the box arrived at my house the other day. Boy, am I glad I've ordered this!
"The Beatles" (14 albums, a total of 16 CDs; plus 1 DVD) is about as far away as you can get from the initial original 1987 CD release of the Beatles albums. First and foremost, the sound is fantastic, MILES better than the original CDs. Much is made about the pros and cons of the stereo mix for the early albums, and ultimately this is a subjective call (I like it). Equally important is the packaging of the albums, which is done with care for details. The DVD (50 min.) is a handy collection of the 13 mini-documentaries that otherwise is available on each of the 13 studio albums (not for the "Past Masters" album). It's nice to have, but I doubt I will watch it often again. Instead you can bet that I will listen to the various Beatles albums time and again. For whatever reason I had never purchased the White Album on CD, and listening to it now is just stunning.
If you were on the fence about buying this, as was I, do not hesitate any longer. It will be worth every penny, I can assure you. Simply a MUST HAVE for any and all Beatles fans around the world. |
