Very simple, short and sweet.
Megadeth's Endgame is just a great metal album, it has all the ingredients for a Megadeth soup. Smashing riffs, Blistering solos, and of course Mr Mustaine's snarling vocals. I highly recommend it.
It will not dissapoint, as it will have you begging for another record, or at very least to see them LIVE and in your face! |

A Step Down From UA and TSHF. Submitted on: 2009-11-14 |

I've had this since it came out. I spun the disc a few times, but nothing really grabbed me. Quite frankly it's a big letdown. I hate to say that, because I really really wanted to like this album. I was excited about this album like I haven't been for a Megadeth album in a long time. With Chris Broderick in the band I thought this would be out of the ballpark.
In my opinion, Broderick is the best guitar player Megadeth has gotten it's hands on since Marty Friedman left. Heck, I saw Broederick on the UA tour and he played Friedman's solos perfectly. I can't say that about Al Pitrelli or Drover.
Broderick's work on Thane to the Throne and Mechanized Warfare is amazing, but End Game feels lifeless. What I mean by that is that the solos don't seem set the mood or compliment the songs in any way. In the long run End Game winds up sounding like shredding for the sake of shredding. Broderick has got technical skill for sure, but I feel his talent was wasted on this album.
This album has a few good (not great) tracks, but the majority of it sounds like filler. I hope he goes back to Jag Panzer.

He's Back! Submitted on: 2009-11-13 |

I have to admit to being an extremely harsh critic of Mustaine's output over the past 10+ years. Having been a huge fan of Megadeth from "Peace Sells" to "Countdown", each release from "Youthanasia" and onward has consistently disappointed me. When I heard that Marty Friedman left the group around 1998, I was very open in my view that the band should call it quits. For some odd reason, I decided to shell out the money for the latest release "Endgame", and I listened to it initially with very skeptical ears. With all that being said, "Endgame" has resurrected my faith in the band. I don't know where the real Dave Mustaine has been all of these years, but he is back with a vengeance! This album has all of the angst, complexity, and brilliance of his 80's masterpieces - excluding "Killing is My Business" which I viewed as a glorified demo.
I was always annoyed with Megadeth albums after "Countdown" because the emphasis seemed to be on over-simplification and denial of the band's past rather than on creativity. "Endgame" shows Mustaine back in true musical and lyrical form. Many of the tracks could easily fit on "Rust in Peace" or "Countdown"; however, I'm not saying that Dave is simply rehashing a tired-out formula. The music sounds fresh and new while still adhering to the qualities which made Megadeth stand out from the rest of their thrash metal peers. New lead guitarist Chris Broderick has injected new life into the band with his solid neo-classical technique (reminiscent of Jason Becker and Tony MacAlpine) and jaw-dropping solos. The rhythm section is probably the most solid duo I've heard since the Ellefson/Menza days. All in all, an excellent effort and a return to form of one of the greatest bands from the golden days of heavy metal. |

Mega dissapointment Submitted on: 2009-11-12 |

UA, the previous record, was way better. All the songs on End Game are faster and attempt to be heavier than previous Megadeth records. Dave's vocals and lyrics are lame. Chris's solos are weak and very boring. He sweep picks arpeggios and tries playing fast scale runs. In fact, this entire records sounds like the background music to an arcade videogame, like Super Mario Brothers. Metallica blew Megadeth out of the water with their latest record release.
Dave needs to fire all current members, and hire Marty, David, and Nick back. He needs re-visit Megadeth's thrash roots and create another Rust Record. Other than that, he shouldn't release any other records. |
