More Pop Than Country - But Lots of FUN Submitted on: 2009-11-23 |

I love Country music. I grew up listening to Country, and I love classic Country, while appreciating and loving a lot of modern Country as well. I have to admit when I first heard Gloriana's "Wild At Heart" on the radio at work, it grabbed me. It is pure feel good, toe-tapping, get you swaying in your seat, clapping to the beat music. It took me a while to figure out who the band was, and I decided to get the album and give it a ride.
I'm glad I did! This is not really Country - but that's okay! This is really fun music. This is long drive home with nasty traffic, put in this CD, and soon I'm in a terrific mood music! This is pick me up music and life is now much better, and I like it when a musician or band can do that.
Of course, I doubt few people could resist "Wild At Heart." It has just about everything one would need to enjoy in a song. I also enjoy the opening track "How Far Do You Wanna Go," "If You're Leavin'," and, for a change of pace, "Cry On Command."
Many people have compared Gloriana to Lady Antebellum, and I think that's a mistake. I really do think Lady A has a more sophisticated style right now. While I enjoy this debut album, and think it's a lot of fun, I would like to see some growth in the next one. All of these talented musicians are songwriters, yet (I believe) only one of their songs was used on this album. Perhaps their next album will feature their writing talents as well as their singing talents. I really hope we see (and hear) more of these young people. But I do hope they are more than a one album wonder! |

Good Sound with More Under the Surface Submitted on: 2009-11-10 |

To Fully DisclTo Fully Disclose, I grew up with Billy Joel's Greatest Hits, and favored the pop/rock genres more than country. It's only been in recent years that I've found myself liking more country, probably due to, in part, Taylor Swift & in part from lower quality music being put out in the rock and especially the pop genres.
Instrumentally, the songs are good. It could be that the favoring of the acoustic guitar and mandolin over the electric guitar in some songs gives it a feel of someone picking guitar and telling his/her life story.
There is also dimension to the songs. By this I mean it that there are songs that you could be listening to for the fifth or sixth time and say I haven't heard that before. For example the Song Wild at Heart features a mandolin, 2 acoustic guitarist, tambourine, and four singers. Even still the beat is kept by hand clapping (such as was done in Queen's We Will Rock You). The four singers don't operate as a church quire either. The four of them work together, leaving portions where one is doing a solo and then migrating over to two, three, or all four singing. This then gives the songs a pleasant variety and is often used to advance the message/meaning of the song.
Subject Mater wise, the album runs a gamete of: Teenage independence, love/relationships, and those capture opportunity in life. The material is real and easily relatable to. For example the song Lead Me On deals with two lovers wanting to hold onto a relationship that both know is over. Throughout the song you can find yourself believing what is song. The song also illustrates how the multi-dimensionality of the album comes through. With the band broken down into two half's (boys & girls) each representing half of this "done and over with" relationship thereby advancing the message of the song.
The album does has it's downer songs, which only add to emotions being expressed. For those who liked the Taylor Swift Self Title album will be at home. Those who would favor Lady Antebellum's more upbeat sound or that of the Fearless Album of Taylor Swift's will still find that they would enjoy tracks: 1. How Far Do You Wanna Go, 2. Wild At Heart, 4. Lead Me On, 5. If You're Leavin', 6. You Said, & 10. Even If I Wanted To (Constituting half the album) |

A good debut Submitted on: 2009-10-29 |

| I liked this a lot and is well worth the money. My only criticism is that the lovely Rachel Reinert does not get enough solo work. Please on future albums give her more songs to herself or she will go of and have a richly deserved solo career |

Looks better than it sounds Submitted on: 2009-10-19 |

| THese are some beautiful people, and at least 3 of them can sing. Unfortunately not all of these songs were great or even good. Typical 4 to 5 songs that are really good is not so for this album or group. Only 2 really good songs on the entire album. |
