AWESOME Second Album from MuteMath Submitted on: 2009-11-19 |
|
| While I've been disappointed w/ most bands I like that have either released their 2nd Cd or a new CD in general....MuteMath have not let me down. They've stuck to what they do best, blending rock, alternative, electronica, and hip hop (although not as much hip hop this time around) on "Armistice". Every song on this album is good, (w the exception of track 2...I don't dislike it, but it's not great either) Even though they sound a lot more radio friendly or "pop" oriented this time around, it's still an amazing album that I can't take out of my cd player in my car. Looking forward to much much more from MuteMath and can't wait to see them live one day. |

Armistice will become legendary Submitted on: 2009-11-08 |

| I had been waiting with baited breath for Mute Math's follow up to their self-titled debut, and with that came a lot of expectations on my part. Armistice is a pitch-perfect sophmore effort and, in my opinion, few other bands have put together a debut follow up quite as beautiful as this. There is an essence to the band that carries from their furst album, a musical identity that they have carved out for themselves, and no other new band out there has the musical artistry they have. They have taken thier debut sound and grown and matured it, without losing themselves in the process. You hear in every song how much of themselves they have put in their music; they make music because they love it, not to sell albums. Since purchasing the album the day of its release I have listened to little else. And, depending on my mood or what sounds good on any particular day, a different song suddenly becomes my favorite song, from initially falling head-over-heels for the high energy "Electrify" and the mellow but just plain cool "The Nerve," to the earthy and melancholy "Clipping," to the serenade vocals of "No Response," to tapping out the percussion beats of "Odds" on my desk at work. Mute Math had made quite a splash when they first came on to the music scene, but I see their place solidifying with the release of this album. Don't be left out! |

Inch wide, mile deep Submitted on: 2009-10-29 |

I have shot concert videos for these guys (back in the Earthsuit days), eaten at Waffle House with Paul and Roy, worked for their management, and watched them gut it out in the brutal music biz for almost ten years. I can tell you that they are some of the most talented and hardest-working MUSICIANS out there. People are blown away in their live show because they have the goods. This is not a bunch of Pro-tools posers. Imagine that.
So if you have no problem with hooky hacks barely it holding together with the help of producers, marketing blitzes, and fashion tape, this album is not for you. If you believe pop music nowadays is pretty much a joke but wish it wasn't; if you think that job number ONE for a musician is to master his instrument, play with passion, and tragic hipness be damned; if you want to hear music that rewards the attentive listener - then you might like Armistice. I do.
A lot. |

As good as it gets Submitted on: 2009-10-22 |

Granted, it's a bit different then their previous album 'Mute Math'
but I still loved this !!
It sounds a bit more futuristic, tiny bit more up beat.
The rythm is just so mesmerizing !
Already, I can't wait for their next album !! |

Good Album / Well Crafted; but with that said... Submitted on: 2009-10-17 |

Discovered this group based on a chance viewing of their video for "Typical". Purchased that album and was blown away. I thought their debut album was one of the most intelligent and well crafted alt rock albums by a new group I had heard in a long time. What is exemplary about this group is their playing chops - all are extremely gifted musicians. The songs are well constructed and it is a pristine production, with a hard edged 'garage' sound.
With that said, and not having heard anything from this new album, I purchased it. It again, is a strong showing, with well crafted songs and good production.
But:
I think I would have preferred this album as their debut, and their first album as their sophmore effort. This album does not seem to take risks, and go buck-crazy all over the place as their first one did. This release seems calculated, and there's something that's hard to describe that the first album had all over the place, that this one does not have at all. Not that it's not good, it is - it just doesn't approach the heights, at least for me personally, that their debut album did. If you like Mutemath, purchase this - but don't expect the same joys and heights reached by their debut.
