Lynch Mob is back! Submitted on: 2009-11-21 |
|
| I was very excited to see that Oni Logan on vocals was reuniting with George Lynch for this album as I am a huge fan of their Wicked Sensation album. Lynch said "this was the album they should have made to follow" that album. It is a solid album, Oni sounds great and so does Lynch. Some songs are kind of southern rock sounding. I was hoping there would be a heavier guitar sound, but that's just me. Overall the album does not dissappoint... get it! |

Oni Logan or Ray Gillen, AMAZING CD Submitted on: 2009-11-12 |
|
| After listening to this i was amazed at how close Oni sounded like Ray Gillen on these tracks. While his voice is a little lower but still the bluesy tinge and soulfullness were so close the Ray's that is sent chills up and down my spine. The CD is good but everyone know it could have been a little better, but I am not going to complain like some and am just thankful to hear new music from George and company. Keep rockin' Mr. Lynch there are those of us who love you and your music without judgement. |

George's lame attempt to get his old fans back Submitted on: 2009-11-10 |
|
There are so many things that make George Lynch special, and they usually shine the brightest on his not-so-popular albums such as Lynch Mob's "Smoke This" and Lynch/Pilson's album. His intense riffs, his skilled and sometimes beautiful songwriting, his schizophrenic guitar playing throughout a song... there's so much to this guy that makes him the best guitarist ever. However, he has been cursed by a group of fans who tend to hate when he tries to grow as a musician. Due to the majority of his fans always hanging onto the Dokken and old Lynch Mob days, this album is George's lame attempt to get a bunch of his fans back. What a dud this record is. He actually has a song on here that's a rip-off of the much better "Jungle of Love", which was a song influenced by "Wicked Sensation". You made your point with "Jungle of Love", George, stop already.
In short, these riffs, solos, and vocals have all been heard before and are a poor man's "Wicked Sensation" with just a few updated elements that really don't do anything for these songs. Why doesn't George realize that his best music comes when he does what he wants and doesn't compromise? Yes, I realize he doesn't sell records or attract crowds that way, but there's nothing stopping him from giving in and just opening at shows where nobody knows who he is but WILL know by the time his set is over. Seriously, open for a big club band, blow them out of the water, and you'll make a name for yourself, George. And why not play more in Japan and South America, where they'll love anything you do? God, Souls of We was bad enough, but bringing Oni back for this rehash junk is ridiculous. |

It aint 1985 Submitted on: 2009-11-06 |
|
C'mon man.
It's 2009 for God sakes!
This music sounds like 1985 all over again.
Only problem is that it's not even as good as it was in 1985!
Only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is that it's George and he's a helluva guitar player.
Sorry his talent stops there and doesn't work well in the song writing department. |

This may be better than the first (previously my favorite) Lynch Mob Submitted on: 2009-11-02 |

Honestly-If you were a fan of the very first Lynch Mob, buy 'Smoke and Mirrors' now.
First, it's amazing that this release actually happened. I remember long ago, waiting for the first Lynch Mob, and it was always delayed... I read about this one being recorded on [...], and I thought..... '..sure, another one of George's projects... '. George has had many projects. I bought them all, and was severely disappointed in nearly all of them. The original Lynch Mob has been my all-time favorite, no question.
'Smoke and Mirrors' floored me. What really is surprising to me is that I might be more impressed with Oni than I am with George, and that is saying something. Oni just flat-out rocks... he absolutely kills on this release, and I am just so happy that these guys got it together long enough to put this thing out. I can't say enough about Oni's vocals, he is amazing, and it made me believe that Oni is the real reason I liked the first Lynch Mob. I'm a guitar fan first, and tend not to pay too much attention to the vocals unless they are bad. Oni proves that the vocals defined the attitude of Lynch Mob, pretty much more than anything else, and the original band was stellar. Thank You Oni, you have really impressed the heck out of me, and probably many more. You bring an element of sophistication that is amazing, your lyrics tell a story like no other, and create magic. George's playing shines when it is paired with Oni's vocals, along with an absolutely thundering bass, very similar in impact to Anthony Esposito's thunder on the original. The drums are great on this one too, it's a super band, and it is what I hoped for, and more.
I agree 100% with the other reviews, especially the first review with a breakdown of the songs, and what they remind you of in terms of other music. Man, that reviewer nailed it. The Yngwie vibe of 'We Will Remain' is unmistakeable. Yngwie is who he is, but he does have a unique sound and song structure. George toured with Yngwie for a summer, can't remember when... but is sure seems that through all of the crap that George and the band put up with, he still was influenced enough to do a song that could have been written by Yngwie - honest. Listen to it, and you can't deny the vibe of that song. It just hammers, and is excellent.
I have been listening to this solid since it arrived. Every morning I wake up, one of these songs is stuck in my head. Overall, every song is excellent, and the songs are so varied it is wonderful.
If I was the manager for this band, I would cut a video for 'Smoke and Mirrors' (the song), put the band in cowboy hats, fill the video with country themes... pickup trucks, horses, set it in the wide-open west....and sell it to the CMT audience. A lot of hard rock fans have went over to country-rock, because metal went in a terrible direction (new-metal.... whatever the heck...can't listen to it), and the country guitar-themed music is basically rock-n-roll.
Lynch Mob could honestly cross over with both 'Smoke and Mirrors' and 'Lucky Man'. And I understand this sounds goofy, but think of the misplaced rock fans out there, who need some edge, but also need some good songs. Both of these songs have a strong country-rock vibe to me, and with good videos, I could see a bunch of fans for Lynch Mob... and it would rock, when George threw down one of his out-of-this-world solos, and put every other guitar player completely under a rock. The country fans would flip out. Not many people understand George's magic, and the signature George sound.... more people need to hear it.
I could go on and on about this, but I won't. Just BUY IT NOW. Buy a few copies, give them to friends. It is a fabulous release, and people need to hear it. There are several songs that have serious radio-play potential, especially 'Before I Close My Eyes'. Amazing. There are so many moments of absolute magic on this thing, places in the songs that just make me want to cry with happiness.... honestly..... moments like these aren't really planned out , they just happen and they sound wonderful. Things came to together in a big way on this release, and you need to hear it.
