 Finally on CD with "SNOWFLAKE"!!!

I was absolutely floored when I came across this. I was given this album by my parents originally in 1965 as another way to shut me up at five years old and that it did. I loved watching "The Flintstones" every week on television and I often was given Flintstones related toys like the Styrofoam building blocks and later Flintstones party favors for a birthday. Christmastime was special to me as a little boy and this Christmas album sung by Pebbles and Bamm Bamm only added all the more to it.
Many of the songs on this Christmas album were my first introduction to such standards as "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "We Three Kings" and "Little Drummer Boy." But out of all the tracks my main favorite was the final track on the albu, a very pretty instrumental song titled "Snowflake" with a couple of words spoken from Pebbles and Bamm Bamm. I would play this two minute instrumental over and over. In fact, I played the album to death. So much that as I grew into my teens in the 70s and took my vinyl record of it out it was loaded with scratches. I had become a serious record collector by then and couldn't believe how careless I was as a youngster.
When I got into my forties and took the album out once more, and with eBay coming along, I realized I needed to replace it. Or better yet start dreaming of a CD release. But over the years most people I brought the album up with had never heard of it. So I sort of knew the album would never be released on CD. I found a sealed LP for $200 and a used one for ten dollars. It was all that could be done to replace my original beat up copy.
Now in 2009 I stumbled across this listing by accident and Christmas arrived early!! I purchased a copy from Amazon, immediately played it upon arrival and it's the 1960s all over again! As I play each song I remember the thoughts I had at the time as Christmas approached and of the Christmases my family shared.
I am most pleased with the sound quality of the CD. Listening to "Snowflake," a Christmas instrumental everyone should hear, I just beam with joy at finally owning this gem on CD. I've been telling all my friends about its release. But, unless you grew up with this Christmas album as a child, thoughts and feelings may differ with adults.
Whomever saw fit to get this released on CD I salute you! And, I hope DJs and radio programmers this year will consider putting "Snowflake" on their holiday music playlist. |

This week, New Line Records released the 1965 children's record, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Singing Songs of Christmas, one of several dozen albums and singles produced by the animation studio.
These records are highly prized by collectors, not only for the recordings themselves but for the extraordinary artwork and graphics by HB's great artists, like Ron Dias, Willie Ito, Warren Tufts and many others.
This particular album is one of the few in the "cartoon series" that is totally musical. When the record label was launched, an episode of The Flinstones featured a singing Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm with the song, "Open Up Your Heart." The song was played on the end credits of several episodes to promote the single. This song is not included on this album, but was included on a Rhino CD called Modern Stone Age Melodies.
The singing voices are the same as they were on the TV show, a mother/daughter singing duo named Rickie and Rebecca Page (in the 1966 movie The Man Called Flintstone, child singers sang Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm's songs).
The new CD features a representation of the original back cover graphics, too (remember the Scully lathe and the finest Westrex cutting heads used to create the masters?) and the disc itself has the wonderful blue HBR label design. A nice touch!
