Awesome! Submitted on: 2009-11-22 |

When I found out about this album, I had VERY low expectations after hearing Twisted Sister and Billy Idol's efforts last year.
However, there is no comparison. This is fantastic. Great vocals, great music, great production. I was surprised that Rob chose 5 songs singing about Christ. He could have done the same things other rockers do- Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Jingle Bells, etc., but he did 5 songs about Jesus and they were tastefully done.
The 5 songs he wrote were good also.
Now what I'd like to see are Christmas albums by AC/DC, ZZ Top, Dio, Deep Purple, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. |

| It's quite simple really. If you're a fan of Rob Halford, you're either gonna hate it or think, hey, this is cool. I, for one, really like this CD. Nice one, Rob. |

A Worthy Addition to The Metal God's Repertoire Submitted on: 2009-11-20 |

This is a very good album that will gain appreciation value over time. You have to realize that Rob Halford is a singer first and foremost. He is an incredible vocalist and you know this is exactly what he wanted to do. He doesn't sell out like other musicians over time. He is all about experimenting in and around the metal genre.
Halford III shows off Rob's singing talent and will appeal to others outside his usual fanbase. It will give him the respect he deserves in the music community as not just a great metal vocalist, but a great vocalist. Period. When Rob looks back over the decades of his incredible recordings, you know he did it his way.
Why not a 5 star review? Well, even I would've liked to hear more songs like 'Get Into the Spirit' to satisfy the metal in my blood. ;) |

Incredible holiday album from the Metal God! Submitted on: 2009-11-17 |

As to opposed to some of the negative reviewers here, I actually bought the CD and have been listening to it for a couple of days. This is definitely my new favorite Christmas album! This is a heartfelt revelation, tastefully interpreted standards that rock, along with several very good originals, and a cover of Sarah Barreilles' Winter Song that's better than the original. The 5 standards all are very well done. When I saw Oh Holy Night on the album, I anticipated a great high note at the end, and its there! The opener, Get Into the Spirit, isn't technically a holiday song, and could work anytime, kicks right in, with Rob's Screaming for Vengeance voice. Christmas For Everyone is a fun, family oriented tune. I Don't Care is probably the lone weak point on the CD, along the lines of Breakin' The Law or Living After Midnight, not my favorites. Light of the World is quite simply a revelation. Truly moving.
The band is solid as a rock, great drums from Bobby J., tasteful guitar licks, occasional sharp solo fills, excellent arrangements. Someone here said go listen to TSO for heavy Christmas music, and you should, but about half the TSO stuff is weird and goofy, for me this is a much more consistently great album, and nobody in TSO can sing like the Metal God! Christmas really is for everyone, even us metalheads! Buy it. Buy it now! |

Don't Get So Serious Submitted on: 2009-11-17 |

| Have some fun...For those metal heads who are as close-minded as they come.Loosen up.Of course it's Rob Halford,Metal God.There's no bigger fan than me,when it comes to Priest,Halford,Fight and so on.He and the boys had some fun with Xmas and original songs. He did add the Halford touch to the Xmas originals. For me,I'm not going to look at him any different.Whenever the new Halford,Judas Priest or whatever comes out,I'm sure it will be heavy and in your face as anything from Halford in the past. So,just sit back and enjoy Halford having a little holiday fun. BTW,I did enjoy the album and would recommend it to any open-minded Priest fan who doesn't have his/her head stuck in the 70's and 80's Priest.I mean, what did you expect,Points of Entry,Sad Wings of Destiny,Sin After Sin or Stained Class? If you did some research, you would see the title is Winter Songs...LOL RNR~~~~ |
