| | | | Customer Reviews of This Item | | Great content, flawed binding Submitted on: 2009-11-13 | | | There are plenty of reviews on the content of this book, and, likewise, I think it's top-notch. I just wanted to add a short note on the craftsmanship of the physical book itself. With the way the holes were punched into the pages, there are large sections in which each page is stuck to the next, and even with the most careful handling, it's difficult not to tear the paper between the holes. The time-sink of separating all of the pages so they'll move freely around the spiral binding is frustrating. For this reason I would only recommend purchasing the book at a discount price. | | | | Great book! Submitted on: 2009-10-16 | | | This is a very comprehensive book, teach you basic knowledge from the very beginning to show you how to play difficult songs. The practice pieces at the very beginning are very simple for beginners. If you have time, patience, and determination, this can be your best teacher to learn piano. | | | | Great for musicians who want to learn piano Submitted on: 2009-10-07 | | I played viola for 10 years, and always wanted to learn piano. This was the book for me. No-nonsense, but detailed and clear explanations. Since I'm learning on my own, the included CD really helps me hear the nuances of how an experienced person plays even the simple stuff. (It's going to take a lot of practice for me to sound decent on even the simplest piece!!!)
Playing viola in the youth symphony, I never learned about music theory, just how to read music. This book has opened up an entirely new world to explore, with its explanations of different styles and their nuances.
I've spent hours researching various online piano courses, but I've concluded that this book is more than adequate to get going.
Also, as others have mentioned, this book is gorgeous. Beautifully-designed and clear layout, crisply printed on semi-gloss paper.
Compared to the dreck that's out there, this book is a breath of fresh air. If you already have some music experience and want to learn piano, I recommend this book.
