| | Carina Bruwer - Classical Recital | 9/26/2004 6:00 PM | | A stirring program in which Carina Bruwer (flute) and Elna van der Merwe (piano) journey through the tantalizing worlds of Classical flute music. Carina is the winner of various music prizes, including the Distell Prize, ATKV Musique Category Prize, and she was runner-up of the prestige UNISA Overseas Music Bursary Competition in 2002. She receives the degree Bmus(Hons) cum laude from the University of Stellenbosch, and is awarded academic colours in 2002. Elna is one of South Africa’s leading piano accompanists, and is involved in various chamber music performances all over South Africa.

Bach’s Badinerie and Handel’s The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba; Classical sentiment with favourites like Gluck’s Menuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits; pathos and nationalism with Doppler’s virtuosic Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise; the sexy Carmen Fantasia; and red-hot Jazz and Latin-Jazz, like never played by a South African flautist before!
