Artist Biography

So i moved with my family to the oceanside nearly eight months ago - & i think doing so has allowed me to wake up from a musical slumber. songs and ideas feel like they're pouring out through me, and i've begun recording my music on a hand-held tape recorder (yeah, low-fi). then i realized that i had so many songs without words that the task of setting them to words was downright huge. so, being a poet, i've taken to just setting my poems to music - specifically to self-accompaniment on guitar & piano. i have a fuzzy vision of what these songs could become, with additional instrumentation, etc. there is a definite conceptual continuity going on, lyrically, and that is what i'm aiming to develop, in time.

as a youth, i enjoyed making music - singing, playing piano. but i drifted far from it while a teen, and so the "return," when i was 21, was all the more dramatic, having been "away" for so long. i wrote my first song on the guitar at 21, called "claustrophobia." this was followed by an outpouring of words & music, coming off of the intensity of having lived for several months in the east village nyc (1996). i was in new york to study writing with sekou sundiata at eugene lang college (new school), and it was really while i was there that music began to call to me again.

the backwoods of warren, ct were where i first let loose with a microphone, just stretching out a little, hanging around my then-boyfriend's band. occasionally i'd get up in front of the crowd at "the tavern" (now ditto's) in litchfield, ct. one memorable episode was a halloween performance with the boyfriend's then-band, in which i sang "stand by me." eventually i joined a band with a bunch of wild boys from bantam & warren. we played one organized event before disassembling. back on my own again...

and into a time of great fluctuation. some months i'd be motivated & focused on my creativity, some months i'd be flat on my back with inertia. so? so that brings me to today, to this ten-year anniversary of that first return to music, and i feel like i'm having a second flowering. i'm working on so many songs these days, and i am fully ready to share my music, my sounds, with others. i want some gigs! i know i have to start out slowly, but i gotta start somewhere.

this is the beginning.

eventually, i will post some music files on this here site. i'm feeling ready to take that leap, but my recording technology is lagging a bit behind. so, we'll get there when we get there.
