Col Brown was born in Liverpool, England and grew up in Sydney, Australia. Col began playing guitar at age 20 after being highly influenced by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour and especially Eric Clapton. Col met Eric after a concert in Sydney in 1990 and was so inspired that he began teaching himself guitar.
Col is self-taught on guitar and vocals and began playing lead guitar in bands in 1993 in Adelaide, South Australia. The most notable band was The Scam, which gained a following in Adelaide, receiving radio promotion on the Triple M network and opening for Appetite For Destruction (Guns N Roses Tribute Show) at The Venue in Adelaide.
After pursuing Mining Engineering and graduating Colin turned his attention to the Music.
By now, heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and by David Bowie, Colin left The Scam to pursue his own music. Over the last decade he has been writing and honing new material. He has evolved a personal style which combines blues based guitar with a heavy metal edge and left of centre lyrics which have a crystalline minimalism. Always wanting to be the best, Colin is constantly enhancing his writing abilities and improving his musical and vocal talents.
As of April 2007 Col founded the dark rock band "Dark Synergy" with lead singer Nellie Mokbel to release his music.
Col has completed demos for Dark Synergy's first album. Col is currently working on a second Dark Synergy follow up album (demos in progress). A solo release by Col is also anticipated.
"Dark Synergy" will be recording an EP in the next months to be released late 2007 / early 2008.
With 20 songs in his repertoire, Col has launched selected work on Myspace with 6,300 plus plays in just over four months. His “You Are The Killer” demo has over 2,400 plays.
Col uses a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul and Jackson Custom Shop King Kelly with Fulltone and Analog Man pedals direct.
