13 of the demos for the Charybdis album Back To Square One have been released to the Coldiron Fusion discography on Artistopia. These are the most outstanding tracks that have been submitted by various members of the Neptune Pink Floyd community as part of their latest Pink Floyd tribute project.
These rough demos were recorded in various parts of the world on eqipment ranging from professional quality to home studio quality to PC internet chat microphone quality. They represent the heart and soul of some seriously talented fans.
Each song is intended as a period piece, simulating a sound and style from a specific year. The demo form of these songs are designed to provide a rough idea of the structure and direction each song is intended to take on. Here is a list of each track and a brief description of the writers' intended visions:
Mortality: This song, written by a young man in remembrance of an automobile crash he had witnessed, is to be done in the style of a 70's acoustic singer/songwriter and has a very rootsy feel. A simple, strummed acoustic guitar is used to establish structure and mood, while the vocals were recorded with a telephone effect as if the witness to the wreck, stuck in traffic as emergency crews work, is telling his loved one what is going on and how horrible he feels, questioning mortality in general.
Alabama Sky: This song, inspired by the movie Forrest Gump, tells the tale of a love remembered in a simple time and is intended to also fit a 70's acoustic folk style, also recorded with just an acoustic guitar and single voice.
Out Of All Reach (Broken): Written by an exceptionally skilled guitarist, this song showcases his instrumental abilities and contains simple yet elegantly deep and thoughtful lyrics, emulating the style of a 70's contemporary James Taylor or Jim Croce type.
Anjanine: Another acoustic guitar driven song written in the late 60's Pink Floyd style, inspired by their sountrack to the film "More."
I'm Not Here: Emulates a late 60's dance hall performance of a psychedelic rock style of song that was all the rage in London at that time, complete with strong hall echo and obscure, trippy instrument effects and lyrics.
Let Me Be Me: Written in the style of 80's contemporary Pink Floyd who was under an entirely new artistic direction and leadership, in the style of the Pink Floyd song Learning To Fly.
Hourglass Suite: An experimental electronic instrumental piece from early 70's experimental Pink Floyd. Over 16 minutes of droning and earth shattering effects.
Crocodiles: A salute to the Animals period of the late 70's, merging electronic experimental music with a syncopated disco-like feel.
Rip You A New One: Electronic/Experimental piece written in that early 70's style that features slowed down vocal effects and lyrics designed to give the listener a creepy, serial killer type of vibe, the killer hunting for his prey.
The Life And Death Of A Dronologist: Recorded entirely with everyday household instruments, this experimental song features wind chimes and rubber bands, as well as strange spoken vocal parts with equally strange vocal effects. A very interesting listen.
Blue Dreams Of Summer: Another psychedelic, trippy, echoing late 60's style piece with free form verse and strange guitar effects.
Some Of Them: Written as an early 80's British progressive rock piece, this track features some seriously heavy metal vocals.
Someday I'll Take The Time: A tribute to a fallen comrade, a band member that didn't quite last and ended up totally withdrawing from the scene. Originally written as a Syd Barrett tribute song, it has been applied to this album project as well. A simple, Wish You Were Here style acoustic guitar and vocal song.
We hope you enjoy the tracks we have posted and we look forward to your comments. Please stay tuned as we begin to post the finished album tracks shortly! |
