After spending time in the Los Angeles music scene supporting signed bands and artists as a guitarist, Cruelty Free front man Corey Bates decided to start from scratch. With just an acoustic guitar and a flashlight, he drove out to the Santa Monica Mountains and wrote a group of songs purely for the love; with no intention of shopping them.brbrAt the urging of a friend, a group of informal showcases was given which would ultimately lead to the recording of ‘Alternate Lifestyle.’ brbrDuring a lunch break from the recording session with producer Ian Nickus, they discussed the sometimes “cruel” music industry. On the way back to the studio, Corey noticed a billboard for shampoo advertised as being “cruelty free.” Seeing this as an obvious epiphany, he decided to call his band Cruelty Free.
Artist Mission
Secure a label deal. I am most interested in promotion, development and tour support and an indie label that understands the music. Ideally, it would be nice to grow our fan base and then upstream for major distribution. brPeripherally I write for t.v./film. The most recent placement was for Dane Cook's Tourgasm and the song 'Alternate Lifestyle' will be included in the soundtrack on Rhino records.
