Interview with Double P

Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?

I was 11years old writting rhymes & poetry

Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?

A friend of the family had a anolog studio, they owned a "mini mart" I worked there after school he hread me rappin and invited me to come make a demo everyone loved my songs the rest is history.

Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?

Actually I have my own style but I always liked N.W.A & TOO SHORT, the realness of saying what you see everyday or experince people can agree with.

Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?

I graduated 12 in the nation in english and litiarery arts, I'm very articulit and determaned so when they quit i'll still be around proving my point. I have substance in my voice and a passion for my art that you can hear in my rap!

Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?

I most likely would because i'm open minded, but everyone has their limits and self respect and beliefs.

Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?

I use the enter-net, do shows where they count at, interface with other artists/people,pass out flyers,do foot work, show up where people of my genre do shows with my materials etc..

Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?

I belive you must have a business since, me being a solo propieriter I own my business and took a few college classs in business marketing economics so it's very importent to knoe something, knowledge is power.

Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?

I'd say strive for your gaols until you accomplish them because no one gives you anything in life, work hard for what youwant and need and you will secceed.

Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?

Aids reseach, because my father is a victim of (H.I.V) and would to help everyone suffering from that illness. Also education because school keeps kids from going through what I went thruogh plus I love the kids!!

Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival.
