The next band that I joined was more my style. A minimalistic guitarist with a really good drummer, strong rhythmic style which was suited well for danceclubs. Our vocalist eventually quit the band after an argument with the guitarist about the "direction of the band". I simplified some of the bass riffs and became our stand-in vocalist. We played quite a number of danceclubs for the next 6 months, but the band became dysfunct when the drummer had his kit confiscated by his landlord.

A friend I met convinced me to purchase a bass guitar and join the band that he was forming. We played quite a few gigs for over a year. We played mostly at small bars and friend's parties. I kept playing with this guy until I became proficient at playing the bass. I was getting bored with his 20 minute guitar solos so I left the band.

My humble experience began in High School. The son of the licensee of the local cable company operator who also owned a television commercial production company, heard me playing the piano at a HS talent show rehearsal. One thing led to another, and I began to compose the background music for the commercials that he was producing for local radio and television spots. That was pretty exciting for a 15 year old kid.
