Album Summary
Following a tide of critical acclaim and numerous appearances on every other chill-out compilation since records began, Groove Armada's Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) has an awful lot to live up to. Vertigo, released in February 2000, was a phenomenal success, critically and commercially, spawning hits like "If Everybody Looked the Same" and the sun-drenched "At the River." Having found their niche in downbeat, Groove Armada explore the style even further on Country. The opening track, "Suntoucher," is a slow-burning dub plate, featuring Jeru The Damaja, which breaks out a supercool horn riff midway through. It's a fantastic start to the album, but it does begin to feel a little long as the song unspools. Even the slightly more uptempo numbers, like first single "Superstylin'" and "Fogma," don't rush into anything, building slowly before the bass hook and drums kick in with a lukewarm impact. Goodbye Country is another musical triumph for Groove Armada, with every track as good as the one before. Still, it's a shame they veer so strongly in a downbeat direction, as they mostly leave behind the quirky house style that helped distinguish their earlier work. --David Trueman

Album Summary
While the tempos on Groove Armada's Vertigo vary from Fatboy Slim-ish party rockers to Air-like downtempo ambient grooves, the songs themselves are downright simple, sample-laden, and sugary sweet. And though those adjectives would be fightin' words in many contemporary dance subgenres, it is not meant as anything other than praise here. The sophomore full-length by London duo Tom Findlay and Andy Cato is unabashedly pleasurable--this is straightforward, hook-heavy stuff, aimed perfectly for the airwaves. Entire six-minute songs are crafted from just a few samples. This approach may strike some as lazy, but the music is invitingly melodic, modern dance-pop, and you'll want to hear the songs over and over, especially the uptempo "I See You Baby" and the mellow "At the River." --Mike McGonigal

Album Summary
In 1999, this London dance duo released "Vertigo", which made the British Top 20 and achieved silver status. They followed this success with a stint as Elton John's opening band. An album of remixes followed, featuring post-productions by DJ Icey and Tim "Love" Lee. After releasing a mix album, "Back to Mine", the duo returned with a second production effort, 2001's "Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)". Two years later, "Lovebox" highlighted a new kind of funk for GA, with kitschy vibes and collaborative efforts coming from Neneh Cherry, Nappy Roots, and R&B chanteuse Sunshine Anderson. "Soundboy Rock" continues the emphasis on catchy hooks and became the fourth straight GA album to reach the British Top Ten.

Album Summary
Taking a side step out of the usual Late Night Tales timeline, Tom Findlay from Groove Armada presents a special Music For Pleasure selection of some of the finest soulful pop music of the 70s and early 80s. Press play and suddenly life somehow feels so much better. The sun is shining because it always does round here. In your mind, you are roller-skating down Venice Beach, the breeze gently kissing your blonde hair. You live in an apartment up in Laurel Canyon. Life has never been better.

Although California plays an obvious role, it s not just the Pacific Coast representing here. We ve got some Scots, a Yorkshireman, some Brummies; but as the saying goes "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend. This legend has been compiled with some love by Tom Findlay from Groove Armada. As part of Groove Armada, he s had Grammy-nominated singles ( Superstylin ), and started the Lovebox festival in London. With Tim Hutton he s one half of SugarDaddy who are responsible for the rather tasty cover of Ace s HowLong here. Also present and correct are Steve Miller Band with Fly Like An Eagle , Work To Do by Average White Band, Michael McDonald weighs in with I Keep Forgettin , while there s room for a special Balearic edit of 10cc s I m Not In Love .
