Album Summary
Hardfloor: Ramon Zenker, Oliver Bondzio.Only six tracks long but worth more than many overly padded and unnecessary single-artist albums in the field, Da Damn Phreak Noize Phunk? is essentially an exploration in breakbeats from the acid obsessives, and a very good one at that. Instead of the massive drum slams that the likes of the Chemical Brothers were perfecting, the Zenker/Bondzio duo keeps the energy but takes a subtler approach, able to both slowly snake along and, when necessary, get the whole dancefloor moving. "Pepper Penalty," the memorable concluding track and the loudest of the bunch, sounds like a laser-tag battle come to life (with appropriate sound effects), but it's not the only highlight. "Yimtrop" has the classic slow buildup formula in place but is decidedly less hyperactive about it, a cascading method of being entranced, while "Phat Packer" rolls and shuffles with the best of them, its murky melody line bubbling along with the low beats as space noise loops float around. "Dubdope," with its quietly dramatic shift in beats towards the end, is also well worth the listening
