The duo signed to Epitaph Records and released their debut album, Patent Pending (album)|Patent Pending , on September 12, 2006.
They spent the 2006 fall season playing the UK and select dates across the US with Darker My Love .

On November 19, 2008, Steinbrick posted a cover of Joy Division 's " Love Will Tear Us Apart " on their MySpace. On December 30, 2008, it was confirmed by Steinbrick that Heavens had disbanded. In a statement released via a MySpace bulletin, he stated: "This is no longer a Heavens page. Sorry, that's just the way it's going down. Matt Skiba|Matt will still be doing Alkaline Trio|Trio stuff and last I heard he might be working on a wonderful Demos (Matt Skiba album)|solo record .
