Jim Hession to perform solo piano concert for the N.V.R.S. on March 18,2007 Washington D.C. |

On March 18,2007 Jim and Martha Hession will travel from the Gulf coast to Washington D.C. where Jim, at the invitation of the Northern Virginia Ragtime Society, will perform a solo piano concert . The event will be held at the Jordon Kitts Studio, 2748 Gallows Road , Vienna/Merrifield Virginia from 2pm to 4:30pm. The program will consist of many historical jazz and ragtime piano classics as interpreted by one of todays leading exponents of jazz piano styles. During the program, you can expect to hear stories and anecdotes from Jim and Martha's career and relationships with such ragtime and jazz legends as Eubie Blake, Teddy Wilson, Johnny Guarnieri, Don Ewell, Jess Stacy, Shelton Brooks, Joe Jordon and Max Morath. Jim was one of the founding members of the Maple Leaf Ragtime Club in 1967 in Los Angeles and, with Martha, were featured performers at the many concerts and events of the MLC for twenty-five years.
The Hessions have been instrumental in preserving early jazz and ragtime at Disneyland and Walt Disney World from 1967-2003 and currently present regular vintage jazz concerts at the National Jazz Historical Park iin the New Orleans French Quarter.
Another aspect of the concert will undoubtedly include selections of the Walter Donaldson music that they were commissioned, by the Donaldson family, to record in its entirety for the family archiives.
Featured also will be examples of rare piano solos from the New York school of ragtime (Lucky Roberts, James P Johnson, Eubie Blake and Willie the Lion Smith) that Jim learned directly from Eubie Blake.
Jim and Martha Hession have recordings available, including CD's that have recently been converted from out-of -print LP's. These will be on sale at the concert.
