Bourbon Street bursts forth with an extra dose of exciting live jazz on Saturday,April 7, when legendary vibraphonist Warren Chiasson joined Ryan Burrage, Jim and Martha Hession and the Rhythmakers in an evening of high energy, swing and mainstream jazz classics. Other featured players were Jacques Gauthe and Ray Fransen.
Several times a week people from all over the world come into Fritzel's European Jazz Club to say "so this is where the jazz is...we've been looking all over the French Quarter and have heard Cajun, funk, country, hiphop, disco-everything but jazz! This is what we came to hear!"
Fritzel's is only one of a very few clubs in the Quarter that offers jazz seven nights a week. This particular night featured an additional dose of quality jazz as Warren Chiasson joined the Rhythmakers for four incredible hours of brilliant jazz renditions of "In a Sentimental Mood", "Lester Leaps In", and T.Monk's "Well You Needn't". Warren and Jim Hession also provided vibes/piano duos on Johnny Mandel's "Emily" and Chick Corea's "Spain". A highlite of the evening was Chiasson's solo vibe rendition of Bill Evans' "Waltz For Debbie".
An appreciative audience packed Fritzel's for the entire evening and the audience was filled with jazz enthusiasts and New Orleans musicians who came by to enjoy the sounds. |
