The jazzy peculiar voice of Stella Bergsma really works its way into your head permanently. Steven de Munnik poured an odd mix of electronics, triphop and ambient in a shape that is typically Iuno and is not comparable, in spite of its links to bands such as Lamb and Portishead. The point of view from which they tend to create their work is the most striking feature, it should be able to function as the soundtrack of a movie. They want to influence the mood of the listener and leave something behind, by putting several emotions like love or fear into their music. As an inspiring souvenir. In my opinion they are doing quite well with songs as “Fracture”, drum & bass with cello, “Seconds” an extremely easy song that brings you guaranteed relaxation and “You and me” containing a constant undertone of excitement. It seems to change from a controlled poem to a song that takes you to another place because it keeps expanding. Completely different than the scary hidden shivers in “Precious”.
An album filled with varied and daring songs, which does make it somewhat hard to listen to, but also surely makes it worth the try. |
