Jeffrey Lynn Johnson is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/musical artist/performer/lover of forward slashes currently residing in Lexington, KY.
Growing up in SE Indiana not far from Cincinnati, Jeff got into the guitar at 14, played in talent shows and school dances, eventually playing in bar bands and had enjoyed creating his own music or collaberating from the beginning. Studying classical, jazz, and other musicial styles through college, while continuing to play gigs w/ an acoustic rock trio, he built a solid musical foundation and gained lots of playing experience.
Eventually, the trio became a full band called Lost Johnson and orignal music was becoming the focus. They released 2 full length albums and had a decent number of fans in the Cincinnati area from the mid to late 90s From that point on there has been a lot of writing, original music shows and whole lot of flat-out money gigs. Over the years Jeff has perfomed as a vocalist more and more often (as well as writing a lot of songs) and has honed that skill to a great degree as well.
17 Days eventually became the band name for a group that evolved out of a songwriting/recording project started by Jeff and long-time friend Sean McGary (former guitarist w/ FreekBass). They had been playing acoustic duet shows--covering classic and curret rock/pop/etc--and just kind of fell into writing together. They commenced in summer of 2004 to record a demo of the first 3 songs they had written and continued to write songs. 17 Days began playing shows towards the end of 2004 at some of the coolest venues in Cincy, including Mad Frog, Neons, Top Cats, 20th Century Theatre and others.
In June of 2005 Jeff moved to Lexington, KY and the band went on hiatus until late summer 2006 when they picked up where they left off, recording in drummer Mark Samson's home studio in Clifton (cincy). They are working steadily on an album due out later in 2007.
Jeff has also been writing a great deal of new songs over the last year and is currently in preprodution for a solo album which will hopefully be released this fall.
Artist Mission
The big picture: to build a solid career as a musician's musician, guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. Specific musical/performing goals include: 1) to release a record w/ the group I co-founded w/ Sean McGary called 17 Days. Just good straight-ahead rock w/ great hooks;
2) to release 2 records of solo material in the next year--ranging from very stripped down guitar/vocal to fully produced;
3) to seek out opportunities to perform at key events/venues in the region and beyond; and
4) to build relationships w/ fellow artists and music industry folks.
Music Influences
Beatles, sheryl crow, led zeppelin, johnny cash, charlie parker, the eagles, hendrix, black crowes, ryan adams, "art music" from antiquity to modern, love, sadness, joy, and madness
