Biography
Early life and education
The youngest child of three, born to Pande and Marija Bukleska a school teacher, Bukle was raised in Kicevo . Even though Bukle was born in a mixed Macedonian-Aromanian family, she cannot speak Aromanian. Bukle showed interest in music at a young age and in 1976, she entered in the Skopian children's festival "Zlatno Slavejce" with the song "Tebe majka ceka", previously sung by great Tereza Kesovija and secured first place herself.
Kaliopi later toured with the choir of Zapro Zaprov "Razvigorce" through Czechoslovakia , Slovenia (then within their native Yugoslavia ) and Austria between 1978 and 1980.
She then joined the class of Marija Nikolovska, where she studied solo singing for a total of four years, to continue her training in the Music Academy in the class of Blagoja Nikolovski in 1984. Kaliopi competed in ranked third in the 1984 Yugoslavia n solo singing contest, despite her being the youngest classical music singer at the festival. She then joined a new band named after her and recorded their first two songs by request of the Skopian Radio, titled "Tomi" ("Tommy") and "Nemoj da me budis" (Don't Wake me up").
Later career
She participated in the “Opatija” festival as a member of “Kaliopi” and won best interpretation for the song “Leo”, awarded by the journalists of Yugoslavia . The band published its debut album in 1986 for RTV Ljubljana (radio and TV broadcast) also named after her. That year, the band also participated in the Split (city)|Split Festival in which it was awarded the prize for the best debut performer for their performance of the song “Da More Zna” (If Sea Knows), which was also proclaimed to be the most listened and played song on the radio during that month. The second album of the band “Rodjeni” (Relative (coll.)), issued two years later, recorded in Zagreb reached enormous success, especially with the hit-song “Bato” (Brother). Other hit-songs from the band “Kaliopi” are: “Kofer Ljubavi” (Love Case), “Da More Zna” (If Sea Knows), “Ostani u Meni” (Stay With Me), “Nebo Mi Sja” (The Sky Shines For Me), “Bolero Lora” and etc.
Many performances, festivals, show-programs for TV Zagreb , TV Belgrade , TV Sarajevo , TV Podgorica|Titovgrad followed, as well as a very large concert tour throughout all the major cities of the Soviet Union . In the time of her biggest popularity, Kaliopi and her former husband, along with the founder of the band, Romeo Gril, moved to Switzerland , which eventually led to the band breaking up. However, even after ten years of absence from the music stage, but still they remain present in the electronic media in Skopje with their recorded audio and video materials even today.
Comeback
Kaliopi made a comeback in 1996 at SkopjeFest , the country's selection contest for the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 , with the song "Samo Ti" ("Only You"). She was awarded first place by the jury and audience. She was thus set to be the first singer to represent Skopje at Eurovision since its independence from Yugoslavia, however, her entry did not receive enough points in the pre-qualifying round to reach the final.
Kaliopi's talent flourished in Skopje and because of this, she decided to start composing and writing songs for other artists. In 1999, Kaliopi wrote and composed "Bidi Ti" ("Be Yourself") and "3 x Ne" ("Three Times No") for the debutante Mersiha, who successfully reached No.1 at the Macedonian Top Ten Charts with these songs. Kaliopi released her first solo album on December 1999, titled "Oboi Me" ("Paint Me") released only in Macedonia and with promotion focused mainly on the Macedonian audience. A television special promoting the new album was broadcast on MKTV, and the video clip for title song "Oboi Me" ("Paint Me") was released. In 2000, Kaliopi started her promotional tour in January for three months and released the next single from her album titled "Daj da Pijam" ("Drunk with Love") in March. During the remainder of 2000, Kaliopi worked to perfect another song for Mersiha, had a summer tour, and began the preparations for her next album.
On January 2001, Kaliopi officially announced a her next album and cooperation with producer, arranger and composer Darko Dimitrov , with the release of the single and music video for the song "Ako denot mi e nok" ("If Daylight is My Night"). The success of her first single from her upcoming album, Kaliopi released the video clips for the songs "Na Pat do Makedonija" ("On My Way to Macedonia") in May, and "Dali me sakas" ("Do You Love Me") in June. Coinciding with the release of her second solo album "Ako denot mi e nok", a documentary was aired on Skopian television stations called "Kaliopi Again" in June. In July, Kaliopi gave an Unplugged concert at the ancient Heraklea amphitheatre in Bitola where 4,000 people attended. In November, Kaliopi began her tour called "Na pat do Makedonija" in which she gave eleven concerts, three of which were held at the sport halls in Skopje. Kaliopi rounded off the year with the release of her fourth single called "Mesecina" ("Moonlight") also in November.
In 2002, Kaliopi released her final single from her second solo album called "Za samo eden den" ("Only for A Day") In February, Kaliopi submitted this song to Macedonian Television for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 selection called "Pesna Za Nas" ("A Song about Us"). It made the final cut and was set to be performed by the popular Macedonian singer Gorgi Krstevski. On that night, Kaliopi was present on stage with Gorgi Krstevski, providing the backing vocals and giving her support, which led to a 5th place finish. In July, Kaliopi released a new singled called "Najmila" ("Dearest"), which became an instant hit. In October, the album "Najmila& nbsp;– Kaliopi Live and Unreleased" was released and contained live versions of Kaliopi's greatest hits and also contained 2 new and unreleased songs. Kaliopi released "Zasluzena Zemja" ("Praised Land") as the next single from this album.
Macedonian diva
In 2003, Kaliopi took a small break at the beginning of the year, but then released her next big single titled "Ne Mi Go Zemaj Vremeto" ("Don't Waste My Time"). This single gained lots of media interest over the next album that Kaliopi was going to release. She announced that she was going to record a duet with popular romani people|Roma singer Esma Redzepova and Macedonian actor Vasil Zafirchev. Her next single in November, titled "Za Kogo Postojam" "(Who Do I Exist For") created more media buzz around the new material Kaliopi was planning to release. The video for the single contained various themes and was one of the most popular videos of 2003. Kaliopi told media that her next album would contain songs in Skopian and the Serbian language|Serbian , Croatian language|Croatian , and Bosnian language . At the end of December, Kaliopi officially released her new and third solo album "Ne Mi Go Zemaj Vremeto".
With her new album released, Kaliopi released her first single in the Ex-Yugoslavian market, titled "Smeh" ("Laughter"). The reaction of the audiences in those countries were very positive and well received. Kaliopi toured Skopje promoting her new album and released her new single "Toa Sum Jas" ("This Is Me") in the first half of 2004. In the summer, Kaliopi and Vasil Zafirchev performed in a play present in the programs for promoting Macedonian culture. This partnership also led to the release of Kaliopi and Vasil's duet, "Purpurni Dozdovi" ("Purple Rains") as a single. The song became a summer hit and was included in many compilations. Kaliopi and Vasil became engaged and later married. As 2004 came to an end, Kaliopi and Esma released "Bel Den" ("Daylight") as a single and then later recorded a video for the song.
In 2005, Kaliopi was selected along with five other artists for her country's Eurovision Song Contest 2005 selection process. However, Kaliopi opted out of the selection in the beginning stages because she received false information about the process of elimination and song selection, which she did not agree with. Kaliopi's absence from the selection was short-lived, however, as the final was scheduled for a face off between Aleksandra Pileva and Martin Vucic. Kaliopi supplied Aleksandra with one of four songs each artist was allowed and Aleksandra delivered a powerful performance with "Ne" ("No"). Overall, the song came in 3rd. In May, Kaliopi gave two concerts in Sweden and also performed in Dubrovnik , Croatia . Kaliopi also composed a song for popular Skopian singer Karolina Goceva titled "Se Lazam Sebe" ("Lying to Myself"), which became an instant hit. In September, Kaliopi released an album called "Me, Isadora", which contained musical pieces that Kaliopi composed herself based on the impression of the love story from the Russian poet Sergei Yesenin and American ballerina Isadora Duncan . In November, Kaliopi released her final single from her third solo album, called "Koga prokleto ti trebam" (When You Painfully Need Me").
In 2006, Kaliopi released her new Christmas song titled "1000 Bozji Cvetovi" ("A Thousand Godly Flowers") in February and gained media interest because she did her own backing vocals for her own song. For the music video, Kaliopi dyed her hair blond and decided to keep her hair that colour for an extended period of time. Kaliopi gave numerous concerts in Split and Zagreb, Croatia where she had full house concerts. Kaliopi officially showed interest in participating in Skopje's Eurovision selection as a performer in a one-night competition with 20 other songs. Kaliopi wrote and composed not only her own entry titled "Silna" ("Strong"), but also new singer Eva Nedinkovska's song "Taan i med." ("Oriental Spice and Honey") Kaliopi gave a strong performance, but only ended 6th. On July 12, Kaliopi performed at the Montenegrin festival "Suncane Skale 2006" with the Serbian language|Serbian version of the song "Silna" and reached a respectable 3rd place. The first single from her upcoming album, "Zivotot e Džabe" ("Life's of No Use"), has already become an overnight success with constant radio airplay and music video airing on television channels. Kaliopi was featured on Massimo Savic's album as a composer and a singer. Kaliopi lent her vocals to the song "Melankolija". At the end of September, she travelled to Zagreb to perform in Massimo Savic's concerts. While in Croatia , Kaliopi signed a record deal with Aquarius Records, which will be releasing "The Best of Kaliopi" CD, in which Kaliopi recorded all of her greatest hits in the Croatian language . Kaliopi was included in the filming of a documentary on the Republic of Macedonia by the BBC and Michael Palin . Kaliopi has composed and wrote songs for several Macedonian artists such as Elena Risteska , Maja Grozdanovska-Panceva, and Verica Pandilovska in late 2006.
30 year jubilee
In 2006, Kaliopi celebrated her 30 year anniversary as an artist, which took place in the form of a huge concert given in Skopje at the Universal Hall. Kaliopi sang some of her greatest hits and had guests such as Esma Redžepova and Edin Karamazov join her on stage. The concert was released during the winter of 2006.
The song "Probudi Me" ("Wake Me Up") was the first single from Kaliopi's Croatian album called Zelim Ti Reci ("I Want To Tell You"). A 'Greatest Hits' album was also produced and promoted both in and beyond the Balkans.
International recognition
At the 11th edition of the Golden Ladybug, the newspapers decidedly claimed that the most powerful live performance, vocally as well as visually, was delivered by Kaliopi who together with the legendary Garo Tavitjan on drums performed We Have Only One Name by Jonce Hristovski. The media pointed out that Kaliopi and Garo’s performance was planned to the perfection, while still very spontaneous. Kaliopi proved once again that she is the unmatched queen of the Skopian stage. She was dressed in a red and yellow dress with national motives, she displayed the Skopian flag on a video-beam in the background, and sent the message: ‘There is only one name for us& nbsp;– My Macedonia'. As one of the participants in the compilation "Macedonia forever", made by Agency of Sport and Youths, Kaliopi had a performance at the big concert "Macedonia forever" with the songs "Narode makedonski" and "Edno ime imame". The concert was held on 23 June on the square "Macedonia" in Skopje.
From June 27–30, Kaliopi competed at the International music festival, Pjesma Mediterana , in Budva , as a performer of the song "Reci mi" and as the author of the song "Dajem ti sve" performed by Tamara Todevska. On 6 July, Kaliopi participated at the 48th edition of the prestigious "Splitski Festival" held in Split (city)|Split , performing the song "Za tebe cuvam sebe" written by Croatian singer Alka Vuica .
In November 2006, Kaliopi competed as a composer in Kënga Magjike, one of Albania's biggest song contests. Her song "Jemi Të Huaj" (We Are Strangers) performed by popular Albanian singer Ledina Çelo reached an honourable second place.
In November 2007, Kaliopi returned to Kënga Magjike,this time not as a composer but as a guest star. She performed her acclaimed song "Ako Denot Mi E Nok", and dedicated her performance to the late Tose Proeski who had been involved in a tragic accident just a month earlier. She was received extremely well by the Albanian public and was even asked to perform an encore of the song.
On the October 5, 2008, a tribute concert was held in Skopje honouring the anniversary of Tose Proeski 's last concert before his death, in which Kaliopi participated. Performing his hit song, "Nema ni blagodaram", Kaliopi was praised by media and fans of the singer alike for giving one of the most emotionally powerful performances ever seen.
In November 2008, Kaliopi once again returned to the Kënga Magjike song contest in Albania, as composer of the song "Njëri Nga Ata" (One Of Them), performed by Jonida Maliqi. This time, however, she emerged as a victor, and her song took the first place, making Kaliopi the first ever foreign composer to win an Albanian song contest in history.
On February 20 and 21, Kaliopi participated in the Skopian Eurovision selection " F.Y.R. Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009|Skopje Fest 2009 ". The song "Rum Dum Dum", written by Kire Kostov, was performed in a duet with Skopian folk singer Naum Petreski . Although she did not originally intend to participate in the selection, Kaliopi said that she could not pass on the opportunity to record a song with Petreski and that the project was unique. The duet managed to win the second semi-final of the competition, securing a place in the final. Kaliopi and Naum Petreski ended up overall in 2nd place with the majority of their support coming from the professional jury who, by a landslide, awarded them top marks. However, gaining only 6 points from the public televoting left the song one point short of victory. Although the song was given praise, criticism began to emerge from the media and public that the song was too old-fashioned. In addition to Kaliopi's participation, she was also the composer of the song "Severno od mene, juzno od tebe", which also managed to make it to the final with Verce Pandilovska as the vocalist.
On May 30, 2009, Kaliopi participated in the annual Croatian Radio Festival with the song "Ljubicice". The song was released in Croatia as her next single for which a music video was filmed to present and promote the song.
On June 6, 2009, Kaliopi returned to Pjesma Mediterana to perform her song "Meni je ime". Her performance garned praise which earned her an award for interpretation. In addition to participating with her own song, she was also the composer of Tamara Todevska's song "Sarena Pesma" and the lyricist of Lambe Alabakovski 's song "A more". Kaliopi released the Macedonian version, "Moeto Ime", as her latest single in Macedonia.
At the annual summer festival " Suncane Skale 2009", Kaliopi was awarded with "Best Performance" for her interpretation of the song "Meni je ime". At the awards show she promoted her single "Od sebe ne odustajem". Kaliopi triumphed with Naum Petreski in the third evening of the festival with the song "Rum Dum Dum", which was elected as the song of the Summer by a panel of music experts.
On November 5, 2009, Kaliopi and Edin Karamazov promoted their album “Oblivion” by performing at a live concert at the Skopian Opera and Ballet. Kaliopi performed the songs from the album accompanied by Edin Karamazov-guitar and lute.
November, 2009, Kaliopi with a new single, she is part of the latest compilation "Miligram" with the song "Nevinost". The music and arrangement were done by the music producer Aleksandar Milic Mili, while Marina Tucakovic wrote the lyrics of the song. This is a project of the Serbian composer and producer Aleksandar Milic-Mili. On this CD edition Kaliopi performs along other artists like: Severina , Zeljko Joksimovic , Zeljko Samardzic , Jelena Rozga , Alen Ademovic , Sasa Matic , Mladen Vojicic-Tifa , Emina Jahovic and Milena Vucik .

2009 and 2010 – Years of success for Kaliopi
For Kaliopi the year 2009 was more than successful and fruitful year. It will be remembered as year filled with numerous awards, live concerts and incredible performances, both in Skopje and the region; a year in which Kaliopi launched her album to the world music market.
Following the success of the 2008 album “Zelim ti reci” published in Croatian language; Kaliopi started 2009 with remarkable concert dedicated to the Valentine’s Day celebration. At "Metropolis Arena" in Skopje, the audience enjoyed in the 3 hour live performance of Kaliopi and her band. For the first time in Skopje, Kaliopi promoted her own souvenir collection, designed especially for this purpose and signed by her.
The second major event marking 2009 for Kaliopi was her special guest appearance at Edin Karamazov’s album “The lute is a song” along with three other world famous stars: Sting, Renee Fleming and Andreas Sholl. This album was published by DECCA.
For her success work in Serbia, Kaliopi won “Carina Teodora” award. The song she performed with Naum Petreski at the Skopian Eurosong Contest brought her the “Suncane skale” award in Herceg Novi. At the very same festival, Kaliopi also won the “Prince” award for Best performance. She won the Best Female Artist at the Indexi Awards 2009 in Sarajevo. Kaliopi had a humanitarian solo unplugged concert in Tivat. She performed at the Croatian Radio Festival in Opatia. She won “Davorin Popovic” award for Best Performance at the festival in Budva. Kaliopi had her first big concert in Sarajevo.
During the summer, Kaliopi took the role of President of the jury, and was also the special guest star at “Europe sings” Contest in Banja Luka. Her performance in Split, at the 4th "Rujniceve veceri" will be remembered as unforgettable.
She performed on every concert dedicated to "Indexi" across all countries of ex-Yugoslavia. November will be remembered as a month of successful promotion. She and Edin Karamazov promoted their album “Oblivion”, with a live concert at the Skopian Opera and Ballet. Two weeks later, the album was promoted in Zagreb too. For this concert, the media will write that it was a unique possibility for the Croatian audience to enjoy in a memorable and inspirational live concert.
Her work in Croatia will be rounded with her performance at two events: the traditional Christmas concert at Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and at the humanitarian concert organized by "Ana Rukavina" Foundation.
Her latest live performance was at "Macedonia" square, at the "Bel den" celebration, organized for the purposes of the EU visa liberation for R. Skopje citizens. Her latest mega-hit single is called “Nevinost”, and is part of the “Miligram” compilation, an album of the Serbian composer and producer Aleksandar Milic Mili.
The diva rounded her work for 2009 with her radio hit "Sreka i taga", and announced the next album for 2010 in Macedonian language that she is already working on.
Kaliopi starts new 2010 with impressive performance at the “Macedonian evergreen” concert organized at the Skopian Opera and Ballet, Kaliopi showed why her song “Mesecina” is listed among the Skopian evergreen treasure. This song Kaliopi wrote for her album “Ako denot mi e nok”, published in 2001.
On January 25, 2010, Kaliopi performed in honor of Tose Proeski at the concert named “Humanity can bring light”. At concert Balkan music stars, joined together to perform 8 new songs, for which the music was originally written by Tose Proeski.
Album "Poraka"
"Poraka" is a ten discography edition of Kaliopi and contains 11 songs. Supervisor and music producer of the album is Darko Juranovic "D'Knock" from Zagreb, and Tihomir Preradovic is co-producer. The album was recorded in several studios in Croatia, and mastering was made in Sweden. Except Kaliopi, Juranovic and Preradovic, as authors of the album appear Miroslav Rus and Rambo Amadeus, who is a guest in the song "Dojdi." In the song "Denot se budi" guest Slovenian singer Marko Vozelj and Edin Karamazov is a guest in the song "Ako još ikad padne snijeg". The album was recorded in Macedonian and Croatian language and except in Macedonia will be published in all countries of the region.
