|
Born in Belgium in 1976 with Jordanian and Yugoslavian origins, Karim Baggili , is a young composer, self-taught guitarist, oud player and singer. He began playing the electric guitar at the age of 16. At 20, he starts working the different techniques of the flamenco guitar and acquires an Arabic lute (Oud) during one of his many trips to Jordan.
In 2000, Karim won the first price of the "Open String Festival" in Osnabrück. His first CD was released in 2002 and he takes part in many CD recordings. He composes the music of several documentaries and one short film. He's playing now with several groups like "Traces", "Turdus Philomelos". He also plays with jazz pianist "Nathalie Loriers" and takes part on stage and in studio with an english singer, "Melanie Gabriel". He brought together great musicians for his new band: "Karim Baggili Quartet" where he plays all his compositions inspired by flamenco music, south americans rythms and one of his origins: arab music. They already gave many concerts, have been part of "Entre Vues" 2004 and made the Jazz Tour des Lundis d'Hortense beginning of this year.
The Karim Baggili Quartet CD "Cuatro con Cuatro" has been released beginning of december 2005. Label: homerecords. A cd (solo) "Douar" has been released in Germany mid-november by "Acoustic Music Records" (German label). Karim has participated to the "The International Guitar Night Tour". "Aton Lua" is his brand new project; a mixture of rock and world music where he sings (in French, English, Spanish, Arabic and Serbo-croate) and play the electric guitar, the flamenco guitar and even the luth (oud).
Artist Mission
This talented and passionate musician has appeared on stage for years playing solo or in duets with a repertoire composed of personal compositions. Today, he performs with three exceptional musicians in his new band "Karim Baggili Quartet". His group was born while meeting musicians of different horizons. Every instrument brought a new dimension and stamp to the existing pieces. The cello strengthens the rhythmic aspect of the flamenco and brings sweetness to its lyrical side. The flute brings the sound of the jazz flamenco already used by numerous groups in Spain. As for the different percussions (Cajon, darbouka, maracas, banked, etc.), they offer a rich palette in tones and South American rhythms. Although a recent group, they hold promise for a very bright future.
