Artistopia Artist Development Co. Interviews Katuv

By Artistopia
Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?

At age 8. I remember as a boy walking down to the neighbor’s house and being mesmerized at the teenagers playing their guitars, drums, and singing. I told myself, even at this early age, that I would someday be a music artist!

Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?

The most influencing input that happened in my life was simply a deep desire to express my emotions, feelings, and all that was within my heart with music. It was not until I received Jesus Christ into my heart that I knew what my calling was. And of course that was to compose music and express myself lyrically with music and share it with the world!

Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?

Paul McCartney and The Wings, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Eden’s Bridge, Moya Brennan. To me, these groups all have that unique and different style, both in composition and sound that I admire so much. They also tell stories within their lyrics that are down to earth and meaningful.

Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?

Fans have repeatedly responded to my music with feedback of Katuv’s songs being very unique in style and expression. I believe this attribute and the full ethnic and world instrumentation truly makes us stand out favorably among other professional artists.

Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?

If it was something that as a professional artist I would need to do to grow in a positive direction, then yes. But if it was something that would go against my conscience and what I am all about, then absolutely no.

Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?

There is so much that is involved in my overall promotion and distribution. But here it is in a nutshell: Being a part of a professional artist and development group such as Artistopia should be priority, having a professional official website with high page rank and high search engine exposure, exposure through other world wide websites, live performances, submitting music to radio in our genre, presenting our work to media for review and interview coverage, and in general, being where you need to be.

Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?

As the previous question stated, making music is one thing, selling it is another. Business knowledge is very important.

Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?

Keep pursuing your love and compassion of music always remembering to enjoy the journey along the way and those with whom you are surrounded by.

Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?

I have always believed that no matter what success level I am at, there are causes that need immediate support. Therefore from the beginning of my music career, I have committed to support those organizations that intervene with the oppressed and helpless children of child slavery and child sex trade. There are many organizations that are involved in this difficult work, but the International Justice Mission has made huge successful exposure and termination of these crimes and has made an impact on my heart with the release of thousands of children caught up in child slavery and child sex trade. As my success grows, so does my capability to help those who are need of help.

Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival. No one said it would be easy.
