Keep It Like a Secret was the fourth full-length album released by indie rock band Built to Spill , and their second for Warner Bros. The core line-up of the band had not changed since Perfect from Now On : singer/guitarist Doug Martsch , bassist Brett Nelson , and drummer Scott Plouf. The album was recorded at Bear Creek studios in Woodinville, Washington by Phil Ek , with overdubs at Avast& #33; Recording Co. in Seattle, Washington . Keep It Like a Secret was released on February 2, 1999. The album spawned two EPs: Carry the Zero EP|Carry the Zero and Center of the Universe EP|Center of the Universe .
