Biography

Kristian Paul Stanfill (born April 9, 1983) is an American Christian rock singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia . His 2011 album Mountains Move reached #64 on the Billboard 200 ., Billboard.com He is a worship leader involved with Passion Conferences and Passion City Church.

Early life

Stanfill was born in Marietta, Georgia in 1983. At the age of 12 in 1996, he became inspired by a speaker at a summer camp to become a Christian. He began songwriting at an early age, after being inspired by The Eagles ' song, " Hotel California ". His other inspirations were Billy Joel and U2 . After showing an interest in songwriting, Stanfill began playing guitar at the age of 13. Later at the age of 15, he began to lead worship in his Sunday school.

In 2002 Stanfill attended Samford University . It was here where he met his wife, Kerri. Around 2004 he also became a worship leader at North Point Community Church .

Musical career

In 2005, Stanfill became involved with the Passion Conferences|Passion organization. He performed at the Passion Conference for the first time in 2005. Stanfill and several of his friends independently formed a band titled around Standfill in 2005. In 2006, Stanfill led worship at the Passion Conference. His recording of "Jesus Paid It All" was selected for inclusion on the album, Everything Glorious . In 2007 Stanfill and his band independently released the EP, Hello .
By 2008, Stanfill became the first artist in eight years to be signed to sixstepsrecords . In October 2008 through November 2008, he and his band began work for their first studio record. A huge inspiration for the recording sessions were Stanfill's personal convictions. "Why is it that we Christians wait for pop-culture to do something groundbreaking so we can come up with a second rate copy that comes off as a second rate copy? ...What if the world and pop-culture started looking in the church’s direction for what’s coming next? ", he questioned with his followers on the band's blog. The album was completed by December 2008, and was released in April 2009 under the title, Attention .

Two years later in 2011, he released his sophomore album, Mountains Move . The album became the band's first to chart on the Billboard 200. The success of the album eventually led to the band being nominated for Best New Artist at the Dove Awards .

Personal life

Prior to 2004, Stanfill married his university sweetheart. He resides in Cumming, Georgia with his wife Kerri, his son Issac, and his daughter Norah. Of his many musical inspirations, some include Death Cab For Cutie , Angels and Airwaves , Queen (band)|Queen , Shiny Toy Guns , The Beatles , Stevie Wonder and The Killers . When not leading worship or touring, Stanfill enjoys golf and baseball.
